WNBA discussion thread?

Rickea interviewed at 21:50. Good discussion of how she fits in Lynne Roberts system. At 25 mins she reassures us that she’s heard our fears and that her jump shots and fade aways will still be allowed.

Roberts’ take on the pace and space offense is really interesting and is 180 from CKCs approach. Robert’s is all about efficiency, not just taking a lot of 3s but actually hitting them. She pretty tightly scripts what’s a good shot for ea player. Rickea mentions sometimes passing up a good shot for a great one. She says her versatility gives her a more wide open window of what a good shot is.

Also talks about how relieved she is to only be learning one position in her SIXTH NEW COACH SYSTEM IN SEVEN YEARS. Rookie yr not only learning new league and yet another coach, but also two positions. Amazing she did as well as she did.

The Mystics waived Zaay Green on Wednesday. Hope she gets snagged by another franchise. Also noteworthy: Former 6th overall pick Haley Jones was waived by the Dream.

It's brutal out there:

Yeah really hope Zaay gets picked up. She deserves a shot. Crazy talented and has worked so hard to make herself a pro.

Jones is a nice player but I always felt she was more suited to the euro league. She’s not really a point guard, can’t play scoring guard in the W and isn’t strong enough to play forward. Too much of a tweener.

At the end of the interview above, Rickea talks about Voice in Sport mentorship program she’s participating in. Last night she was set to focus on coming back from injury, specifically the one she had in college. Would love to hear this, although it triggers terrible memories, will be on the lookout for audio.

I’m surprised Jones hung on long as she did. Not a W caliber player.

Not sure about Zaay. She’s an “old” rookie and that might work against her.

Mercedes Russell still hanging on w the Sparks but they have one more cut to make.

I forget until he pops up in a video that Mike Neighbors is a Sparks assistant this yr.

Next to Courtney Williams, I thought Diamond had the greatest elevation on her jump shots compared to others in the W. JMHO....
The last few yrs injury has just decimated Diamonds career. I thought she’d have a chance with a roster as thin as the Suns, but she started this yr out hurt again.

So with Jordy out, that leaves only 4 LVFLs in the league. There’s the three Sparks and Izzy Harrison in NY.

If I were a veteran player who has fairly regular health issues, with the league the way it is — often extremely difficult to land a roster spot — I think I’d live out of a few suitcases until after final rosters are announced.

I hate it for Diamond, but I’m not surprised. Been wondering about Izzy. Did she make it?

Yep, Izzy made the Liberty roster.

“The team says it drafted with the idea of fulfilling coach Natalie Nakase's desire for a fast-paced, widely spaced offense that can shoot 3s and wear down opponents.”

Sound familiar?

Oh man. Rae down, right knee looks really bad. Carried to locker room. Happened on the very first play she was in on.
That injury is one where everyone knew it was bad. Hoping for a miracle but…., Sparks look like they will struggle to be a 500 team. So so game for Rickea but the sparks got her zero touches in the lane. At least she knocked down some 3s which looks that will be her role. Plum apparently went to the Sparks so she can lead the league in scoring. So much hero ball. Mercedes did not look good. Hopefully, this game was just a bad night.

Sparks looked ragged at for sure. But they're just two weeks into learning a new system and this was really like another preseason game. Valks had no interest in guarding Plum and completely quit guarding her in the 3 rd qtr. But it won't always be like that. She'll be forced to share more. Stevens had a great first quarter and rarely got a touch after. Rickea only got 5 shots up till late in the 3rd and hit 3-6 fm 3. Still struggling w her jumper though. Hamby got hers thru scrapping as usual.

Rickea had a good all around game w 5 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block, but also too many dumbass t.o.s. Her defense has improved a ton. Sparks are thin af esp without Rae. They desperately need Julie Allemade back to run the O and distribute. But can't blame Plum for taking what they give her on a silver platter.

Was stunned how slow Mercedes is. Looks like those mins should go to Fagin. Cam B cannot get back fast enough.

Home opener against the Lynx Sunday could be ugly. The Lynx looked great last night.
