That shot attempt was so goofy if I were the coach I would have yanked her immediately to have a little Calm TF Down chat.Feelin' kinda envious of the GSV fans for having this opportunity to be there from Game One to support an all-new professional sports franchise. I know it will never happen, but I often daydream about a WNBA team in East Tennessee (or, ideally, Southeast Tennessee). *sigh* I was living in Atlanta and did some early organization work to help bring a franchise to Atlanta -- we succeeded, obviously! -- and it was such a thrill to be a founding season ticket holder and avid supporter all those years ago. Oh how I long to support a Tennessee team. 
Whew that was brutal! Only preseason but I’m really disappointed in the Sparks. Plum tried to do way too much (as I feared), Hamby was a non factor and Rae was wilding. Only been in camp a little over a week but did not appear well coached.
Rickea was the best offensive option for the Sparks by a country mile. Leading scorer w 13 pts on 50% shooting and scored several different ways. Came out of game for good about halfway thru the third. The Sparks better pray she stays healthy. Rickea needs to rebound better, only 2 boards.
Azuri had a nice game,, 9 pts and 11 rebounds.
Looks like it could be another long season, but pretty easy to see Rickea going to be an All Star.

Awww, GS came so close! They can hold their heads high in knowing that none of those players had ever played together until 7 days ago and they took the Sparks down to the wire.
I'm glad Jackson had a good game, and I know Rae struggles with nerves so I'm chalking her spastic game up to that. From this first look it's hard for me to make even a wild guess how the Sparks will fare over the course of the season. OR the Valkyries. From how they fought, I'd bet the farm Coach Nakase wanted a win like she wanted oxygen to breathe, but I hope she and the team are proud of their first effort, even though they lost in a heartbreaker.

The Valks are indeed fighters and the fan turnout was awesome. But truthfully, their roster is awful and it was only close bc the Sparks were playing the very end of their bench, most of whom won’t make the roster.
Reading reaction fm Sparks fans, the almost universal takeaways were that Rickea needs to be the first option, Plum needs to play off ball (Allamade is hurt yet again) and Rae’s energy is best off the bench.

Yeah I actually think the sparks could be really tough but they need a true point guard. Plum isn’t that, she is a dynamic and incredible scorer but she does not do anything for the flow of the offense.
Sims, Plum and McDonald are almost carbon copies of each other. Left handed scoring guards who want to get theirs, score first, pass second.
Sparks also should have kept Li Yeru. She is a great player and they need a center. I don’t like Hamby at the 5 at all she just doesn’t have the size to really protect the rim. Mercedes looked good in her minutes but she’s getting up there. If she makes the team I expect she’ll play 10 or fewer minutes.
Was there, didn’t get off the bench. Not sure if she’s hurt. Agree, Mercedes will struggle to make the roster against the younger, cheaper Fagin and would only be a role player.
Lynne Robert’s likes to play fast so Azuri could play center some in that scenario.
Don’t know what was promised Plum re playing point but the Sparks won’t be successful w her there. Julie Allemade is supposed to be a very good pass first pg but can’t stay healthy. Allemade, Plum, Rickea, Brink and Steven’s/Hamby could be very strong, w Rae, Sims, and a strong big center for certain situations backing them up. And yeah, Li would have been perfect for that. Russell just not fast enough.
Julie is great and should be their point. I really don’t think Hamby suits Roberts system at all. Wants to do all her work in the middle of the paint. They should have traded her for another 6’4” who can shoot the three better.
Since she got to the sparks she wants to be the star and she is a born role player. Takes shots away from Jackson who is more talented and efficient.
