WNBA discussion thread?

I think Paige is a really good person and really good player, but she’s not in the same atmosphere as Clark.

And boys are the Wings a mess! All the teams with new coaches, and Thats over half of them, have only had 2 weeks to learn the new scheme and their teammates. But the Wings are already in disarray. Tierra is mad, might just give limited effort lol. Doubt Arikes happy with reduced touches. New guy got his hands full.

Sparks looked ragged at for sure. But they're just two weeks into learning a new system and this was really like another preseason game. Valks had no interest in guarding Plum and completely quit guarding her in the 3 rd qtr. But it won't always be like that. She'll be forced to share more. Stevens had a great first quarter and rarely got a touch after. Rickea only got 5 shots up till late in the 3rd and hit 3-6 fm 3. Still struggling w her jumper though. Hamby got hers thru scrapping as usual.

Rickea had a good all around game w 5 reb, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block, but also too many dumbass t.o.s. Her defense has improved a ton. Sparks are thin af esp without Rae. They desperately need Julie Allemade back to run the O and distribute. But can't blame Plum for taking what they give her on a silver platter.

Was stunned how slow Mercedes is. Looks like those mins should go to Fagin. Cam B cannot get back fast enough.

Home opener against the Lynx Sunday could be ugly. The Lynx looked great last night.

I am sure they will get better as a team. I just think they have a massive talent disparity to the top flight teams. Injuries have not helped (and it appears to be a worsening situation). It is shocking how far this once premier WNBA team has fallen in terms of roster quality. Unless they want to win the Juju lottery next draft, I imagine they will be making trades to revamp this team. Rickea might become a trading chip before it is all said and done.

Sabrina I is about 3-40 in her last two games. Fortunately the Lib have lots of other options.

Once again, even with the clearly best player in the world, something about the Aces just doesn’t click.

I can’t figure out why I feel this way, but I have never really cared for the Aces — even when Candace Parker was there. I have nothing against any of the players or coaches, but I just don’t care to watch them. Weird.

Is watching the Fever something I look forward to? You bet!

Yeah, I'm relieved she's not done for the season, because that would mean she wouldn't have an opportunity to earn money with one of the other leagues later, either. But dang. The W season flies by, and 8 weeks is a lot to miss.

Whew. Not the worst news. Still, what an unfortunate setback when she had such a good opportunity. Healthy healing Rae.

Not sure if this is same knee as LV injury?

That is great news. That injury had acl written all over it. Rae really needs to work on her body mechanics. She created that injury by flying in off balance and at a very bad angle.

Such a good point. The same mad energy that makes Rae a literal spark off the bench turns her into that wild baby deer on roller skates sometimes with very little control.

I'm praying for Raes mental. This is yet another really devastating and terribly ill timed injury for her. Remember how well she was playing her last yr here when she got hurt? Was never the same player for us when she came back but still got first round drafted. Then injured her foot 3 games into her rookie season and was out for the year. That led to her getting cut before training camp the next year. She spent the last 2 yrs slowly working her way back and finally was in great position to be a real contributor this year. And 41 seconds into this season the bottom falls out again. Just brutal.

Fortunately, Rae appears to be greatly beloved by her teammates and the organization. But this has to be devastating for her.

The latest CC/Angel drama indicates this nugget is finally running out of steam, esp w them. Certain fans will never let it die, but both players were dismissive of it both before and after this incident. Angel refused to take questions about the rivalry before the game, and in spite of her over reaction in the moment, echoed CC after the game saying it was a normal basketball play.

What happened was Angel two hand shoved Natasha Howard to get rebounding position which left her wide open for a layup. Clark fouled her in the way any player would, possibly w a little mustard added but no big deal. Angel, ever dramatic, launched herself into a flop that would make Jokic proud, then got up and went after CC verbally bc she is still who she is on court. Boston, ever the adult in the room, stepped in between, CC walked away and that was pretty much it. Foul got upgraded which was questionable but again no big deal. Unbelievably, Boston got the tech!

Hilarious moment when AB found out she got T'ed up, CC promised to cover the fine.

IMO both AR and CC have grown up alot and both are sick of this narrative. Thank goodness.

Now it is time for the media to grow up and give it up. I purposely don 't click on anything about their interactions because there was time I did given that I am interested in both players. I am paying the price for doing so, as now I get almost daily dramatic headlines about them just doing normal interactions. Today was that Angel Reese, when asked by media, said that the refs got it right regarding a foul that was called on Caitlin Clark. That should be top news story of the day :p !

Definitely the best part imo. Players going to react the way they do oncourt in the heat of the moment but off court in real life theyve moved on.

I was surprised how good the Fever looked and how bad the Sky looks. But when Kia Nurse is your starting shooting guard, your roster is weak sauce af.

Also surprised how good the Mercury looked even wo Copper and how utterly wretched the Storm looked. Cant believe Melango played less than 10 mins. Noelle Quinn may be the first coach given the gate.

Boston looked genuinely upset about getting a T-- on a W salary those fines matter, Very glad that CC promised to cover the fine; she has the multi-million $ endorsement deals. Smart move to keep the ground soldiers happy, like a star QB buying his lineman rolex watches.

After the first weekend of games, I am ready to make my season predictions (all contingent upon no major injuries) and it is a whole lot of deja vu all over again,

Finals - Rematch of Liberty v. Lynx with Liberty repeating (and the Fever challenging in the semis) . The Liberty are the most together and stacked team in the W.

Clark wins the assist title again and joins Vandersloot in the 10+ a game club.

Wilson wins the scoring title again.

Reese destroys the rebounding and double double records again.

MVP - Collier, with Wilson and Clark close.

Rookie of the year-- hardest of the set to pick after one game. Safe bet is Beuckers but I will go out on a limb and say that Murrow or Iriafen take it.

Sparks already getting better looks today and looking more like you’d expect. Stevens is really going to thrive in this system with her inside out play. Three treys already, great ball movement from the Sparks the last few possessions.

Really bummed about Rae. Hope she comes back healthy in 6-8 weeks.

Lynx are just too good, turned up the D in the second half and pulled away. Really good first half though. Another really tough game for Rickea, shot 4-11 and just can’t hit the easy jumpers she usually hits. Took a shoulder to the face at the end of the third qtr and never came back. Robert’s said no update, being evaluated. For the Sparks to win games, Rickea has to step it up.

Barker looking good, plays hard and smart. Rae was there, on crutches, looking very fine.
