Why the pessimism?

What does the stat prove, really? Would be favored to beat any team that surrounded us? Would we even be competative?
Someone made a comment about the tallest midget in the room earlier. Pretty good comparison.

Which stat? I have no idea what teams “surrounded us.” Competitive with whom?

I just don't think that explains it well.

Sure, element of angst left over, running around in the back of our minds, a bit.

But most of that was flushed with last year's win. Most of the remnants should've been washed away by Florida's current dismal condition.

So just not sure why the doom & gloom is strong this week. It doesn't appear to make a lot of sense.

Maybe some comes from the game being in the Swamp (always a challenge to march into the Swamp and pull a "W")? Maybe. That makes a little more sense.

"Because last 30 years" just isn't answering it.

I was optimistic after last years win, then USCe and Vandy happened. Optimism left me. But I'm not pessimistic about this game. I simply want to see what happens. Sure, I want to win, but I'll need to see it happen. For some of us, it's no longer optimism or pessimism, it's simply let's see what reality delivers us.

I don’t know what either proves, was just pointing out that both seem selective yet you see one as proof of something and another as meaningless.

Not pessimistic, I would say cautious. UT fans used to heartbreak and if you don't get too attached, the pain is easier to bear.

But yeah, I don't care if Georgia is number 1 in the nation, Butch owns Georgia.

I have never thought of orienteering as a sport, I guess so.

Heh, yeah, I don't know what nuts came up with the idea back in the 70s, but it was a thing for a while. Based on military orienteering (which is probably what you know), but turned into an athletic competition. Teams. Time scores. Penalties for missing a point. All that.

I guess it didn't last too long as an idea for a sport. By the time I came back from Germany in '85, I never heard of it again.

But it was a thing in the latter 70s. :)

I'm kind of with you, actually, Weezer. There's some waiting for proof in me, too. *shrug* I just love cheering on our lads, and will keep doing it probably in the face of all rational reason to give up hope. :)

There's so much doubt because we have clearly been the better team the past 3 seasons but only have 1 win to show for it. I am personally feeling confident we win by 2 scores but there will always be that doubt that creeps in when victory has been snatched away from us as often as it has.

Why is it that every year, there is so much doubt? Let's get real guys:

-Sure, we allowed an ungodly amount of yards on defense against Georgia Tech but who doesn't? Hell, even the "almighty" Jawja does almost every year. Our defense is going to be fine and is going to win us some games.

-Why is everyone afraid of Georgia again? They aren't that good, Kirby won't last. They just beat a highly overrated Notre Dame team and everyone is scared. That's a load of crap, we will roll them in Knoxville.

-Florida scored 3 points on offense against Michigan, we will beat Florida by at least 3 touchdowns. Their defense isn't crap neither, Speight threw those interceptions in terrible coverage, Dormady will adjust and have a career day.

-We will play in Atlanta in December, this team isn't a nightmare as some of you make it out to be.

None of these things that you mentioned matter. Florida always plays their best games against U.T. & F.S.U. The Florida of two weeks ago, does not matter, they will play above their skill level this weekend.

I just hope the game isn't put on bUTch's shoulder or Medley's shoulder........

I really hope we run the ball consistently so that playaction can open up.

I'm trying to convince myself that team 121's defense is not as bad as it seems, but I'm not buying it, it is bad, until proven different.
Prove me wrong team 121, prove me wrong on Saturday!
Go Vols

God forbid

If the Vols go down there with a gameplan (including adjustments) and mindset that's aggressive/attacking (both offense and defense), play with itensity on every down, while also staying focused on sound fundamentals, avoiding mistakes & penalties and protecting the football -- the Vols SHOULD win this game.

Michigan, may be better on defense than the Vols, but I think the Vols have a better offense. Overall, I think the Vols are a better team than UF. UF's defense may be better than UT's, but to me UT's offense looks considerably better than UF's.

UT 31, UF 24

Jmho.

I can see why there is pessimism but seeing stuff like this seems like straight up disrespect,

I don't take much stock in computer models or what most of the talking heads have to say.

Well, of course you don't,

Not to mention the SEC networks premier "talking head" Finebaum being stuck human centipede style to Sabans hindquarters.

Are you worried at all about our match up in October, or will you show a modicum of respect and say you will at least take a wait and see attitude until after this weekend?

I don't recognize any of those names on that chart. Finebaum is a clown, imo. It's still early in the season and most teams haven't hit their full stride yet. No disrespect, but I do think Bama will beat the Vols.

I'm good with this, but think both teams will play better than shown so far.

One for certain thing, is that we've had that hard-fought game with GT. There's no way we win that game, even though we stole it, if we don't keep battling for the W. There is a real value in knowing the game's never over, and you have the ability to make plays to win. I've got a feeling it's going to be a close game, and if it is, I like our chances.
