Why not Mike Leach?

Shoop/Leach combo would be interesting

I think it'd be a deadly combo. If leach had a group of power packed recruiters, I'm talking guys that live for receuiting. I think those two could do some serious damage. With that said he would be 5th or 6th on my list.

He would be e second coming of Hal Mumme in the SEC - without the NCAA sanctions. Didn't work out well the first time

I like Leach... but my hard points on the hire are - keep Gillespie on the O and keep Shoop on the D and let him pick his staff...

Leach for OC!

His perfect fit. He's a well spoken o coordinator, who not only knows x's and o's but how to set up an offense from what he has on the roster, not making the roster fit his pet scheme. He spouts sarcasm which is a sign of intellect but he's thin skinned and impatient. He'd make an excellent o coordinator but since he's been the head coach would his ego allow him to be effective and content under another coach? Then theres that fitting in with the SEC mindset....

I have searched back through various threads regarding possible replacements for CBJ. I have seen several who are very adamant about not wanting to hire Mike Leach. My question is why? He has won at high levels in the Big 12. His offenses were record breaking . His defense at Washington St. looks legit this year. He has been able to recruit to Washington St, which historically is a very hard sell. I know the circumstances behind his firing , but wasn't it proven to be basically a sham perpetrated by Craig James and his prima Dona son? Seems to me like he has served his rehabilitation stint and would at least be willing to listen to an offer from a big time SEC program.

I live in Baton Rouge and listen to a local radio show every evening. the host of the show is Matt Moscona and i trust what he says on air, He said Leach called LSU and begged for the job.that tell me that its a strong possibility he may be Tennessee's next coach. Obviously Leach wants back in the sec and at a big time school.

I doubt he would have any interest...he's not a spring chicken and he's got the Washington State program turned around...back to back 8-4 regular seasons and sitting at 5-0 now after knocking of USC...

I just don't see him wanting to restart....especially in a much more difficult conference with much higher expectations...back to back 8-4 regular seasons at UT get the fans wanting you fired...

Hell I like the guy. As for personality, Saban isn't exactly Mr. huggie bunny and that doesn't seem to bother anyone.

I was at the Cotton Bowl when the best team he's ever had (2008 TTU) got dismantled by Ole Miss.

Wouldn't fly in the SEC.

Yeah. High powered offenses like Clemson or Oklahoma couldn't fly in this conference. That's just why Alabama struggles against anyone that runs a spread and eats alive teams who don't. You realize Ole Miss didn't beat Alabama twice in 3 years and was very, very competitive with a bad team in the year they lost by chance. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" days are over. The offensive revolution is here, mostly brought on by the changes in the rules (Targeting, Defensive Holding, PI) being called much stricter, and in order to win at a high level we have to embrace this change: All if the top teams did.

What would be reaction by most fans if they did hire Leach?

Mortified

If you are going to do that why not just keep Butch (and I am a fire Butch guy)

But really his coaching record is exactly like Butch's. Leach can get your team to 8 or 9 wins most of the time........once he had a few years to get his schemes in place (until then you have losing records). He is .605 for his career............shouldn't Tennessee aspire for better?

He could never recruit here or in the south. He's a weird dude and not sure how many Mother's,Fathers or Grandparents in the South would want their kid playing for this weirdo.

weird how, unless you mean because he's a Mormon? I already know the pirate stuff. If he gets the right players to fit his system is what counts. A lot of the recruiting rankings are overrated , and useless if you don't have coaches to develop talent.

Yes, the fact bama has the no.1 class every year has no bearing on why the dominate everyone

if you had read what I wrote you would see i said recruiting was overrated, not totally irrelevant to on field success.Bama is in a class almost their own. Tell me how some of Butch's recent highly rated recruits have translated to on the field wins.

I hope you are joking. He had Texas Tech in the top 4 at one point, and Washington State is now in the CFP picture. No one does more with less than Leach.

I would take him in a heart beat and not think twice about it. The culture thing some refer to, I think it would be welcomed change. No cliches, no sane thing every press conference, he says what he’s thinking and don’t care what anybody(or their fat little girlfriends) think about it. If he can beat you by 60 he is going to try to. He’s out to win football games, not make friends. I think that type of mentality is needed here. JMO
