Why is TBA always so quiet?

Well guys good job tonight. I take back what I said about TBA being quiet. It was pretty loud tonight.

Thank you for proving me wrong!

except the last five minutes of the first half...that arena was quiet and I got pissed off because florida started to make a run but no one got on their feet. Great job the second half though!

I will be the first to acknowledge that the lower level courtside seats are full of largely middle-to-later-aged season ticket holders who hardly ever stand and rarely yell. That's just how it is.

I have been to quite a few big games over the past few years and I would say that was the loudest I have heard it in a long time for most of the duration of the game..... Especially during the Technical incident. The only time I can remember it being louder was for the overtime period when we came back to beat Texas last year.

Also add that I was on row 12 behind Florida bench and I was very impressed with how loud they were over there compared to other times I have been in those seats.

The crowd was pretty loud tonight. Not the loudest ever, but it did end up being a 22 point victory ... so that factored in. Plus the 9 p.m. weekday start time. Still .... VERY loud crowd, and would have been more loud at the end in a closer game.

I was in the student section tonight, I think # 324 and I was very disappointed with the turnout for tonights game. I believe we had a better showing for vandy and Ole Miss as far as capacity wise. There were alot of open student seats and alot of open seats in the corrner sections of the arena, I cant remeber their #'s. I know alot of students had tests tonight and this week, but this was a pretty big rival. I showed up 1.5 hours early and it turns out I could have shown up 10 minutes before tip-off and gotten a seat two rows higher than I was. Oh well, what can you do. Either way, I love how we dominated the last 10 minutes.

From GoVols.com:

“There were 1,400 unused student tickets,’’ UT athletic director Mike Hamilton said glumly. “There were 3,700 allotted for them at this game.

Wasn't there some big stink last year about UT reducing the number of student tickets available? You can bet Hamilton will have this in mind next time the issue comes up. Kids can walk over and watch their NUMBER SEVEN TEAM play a big conference game for free, and they can't bother to do so. Considering all the craptastic basketball I sat through on school nights during the Wade Houston years, I'm appalled.

I think students don't want to sit in the nose bleeds....after the main rush comes in you are forced to sit in the upper deck and soon enough you can barely see the game. But tonight it felt like the students didn't realize Florida was coming into town....it must of been a big test week or something

I also noticed the large amount of empty seats in the upper deck of the student section...I was pretty embarrassed about it. I believe the "Rowdies" section was a little more packed tonight than usual. And there are a lot of tests this week being about 1/3 of the way through the semester. And I don't believe it helped that the game was at 9, I think it would have been more full if it was a 7 or 8 game...jmo

im sick of having to wait in line for 5 hours to get a good seat. i know quite a few students that bought tickets for this game just to not have to stand in line. if they would come up with a better way to distribute tickets, student attendance would increase dramatically.

I didn't go b/c I heard the line was already getting big around 4 and 5. I figured if I went at 6 or 7 to get in line either A) I would have to sit in nosebleed and I would rather watch on TV b/c I can't really see anything. or B) The student tickets would run out. I too agree wish they would to something about the tickets. Also, a lot of people save seats in the lower part which I think is B.S. and give them to their friends that waited in line for like 20min.

How did you guys have to wait for tickets if you're students?

It's a landslide victory : Men's Basketball : GoVolsXtra.com

Someone needs to explain it to me again how the students section needs more seats.

My fiance is still in school and none of her friends went cause they couldn't stand in line early and they thought all the seats would be full. Um... maybe that happened to 1,400 people.

Why were you in the upper deck? I was in row 10. :D

Yup, about 7 rows up. We left at Half-time so that we could go get some pitchers at Cool beans and so we could actually see that game. My friend and I got there 1.5 hours before tip-off and these were the best seat, litle did we know not that many more people came in after us, so the wait was not needed. There were a bunch of people saving seats in the lower section so this was the best we could get. I thought it would still be more crowded due to the being our rival.
I dont think that many people were out last night, period. With it being Fat Tuesday it was quite dead on the strip, I guess there were a lot of tests last night/today.

*shakes head* I was there at 4PM waiting in line. And I got to enjoy my lower level row 10 seats. :)

Some people have classes throughout the day. I still havent figured out how people can spend the whole day waiting in line when they probably should be in class. Somehow, just about all of my classes take attendance so it is a bit difficult to be able to camp out all day. I respect those who do, my schedule just does not allow it.

I don't think that's the concern any more. Those endzone sections in the UD are pretty terrible. I'd much rather watch it on TV than watch the Jumbotron all game...

It is pretty simple. No one wants to sit in the nosebleeds, or in the corners where you literally can not see the court due to the new luxury boxes. Once the bottom fills up, some students leave or go and buy from a scalper. That's what I do.

Besides, I personally got turned away from two games last year. Any claims that the student section was never sold out last year, and that no one was turned away is an outright lie. I was. Now I come two or more hours early to stand in line, along with a thousand or more other students. And yet we are still criticized. Change the distribution system, and you'll increase student attendance.

I don't take anything Mike Hamilton says concerning student seats and attendence anywhere near seriously. This coming from the man who pushes the students into the crummy corner seats in BOTH TBA and Neyland and expects it to be loud when they give the best noise making seats to the old season ticket holders who treat the games more like a social gathering than a sporting event....

It's all about the money, if they cared about restoring the homefield/court advantages to their fullest extint, they would move the students to seats of prominence, not shove them into a corner... and the nosebleeds...
