Why is TBA always so quiet?

I don't get to go to as many UT games as a lot of people here, but I've seen several times when people get aggrevated about someone standing. I kind of see both sides, but I don't get to go much, so I'm going to make it count when I do. If I am in someone's way, I'll try to compromise to the best of my ability and move to where they can see if at all possible. If it's 3rd down and Florida has the ball and we need a big stop... we need to be standing and yelling; however; I won't critcise you for not doing it, don't criticise me for doing it.

As far as TBA goes, same thing... if it's tight and crowd noise is needed, then don't get mad when people stand up and yell.

I can remember going to a few games one is the KY and Tennessee game that I had to stand on my seat the entire ball game. Half included and it was loud and great. I was in the student section of course. We all had newspapers (Daily Beacons) reading them as the Ky team was announced and when The Tennessee team was announced we tore them up and threw them in the air never sat down after that. What a game...

it was the same at SAC except for certain games. But it was only 1/2 that was rowdy during the special games. Again, the old ticket holders. Wrap the first 5 rows around TBA of nothing but half naked screaming students and you will intimidate opposing teams. \\\

on a humorous note, My brother was so loud and obnoxious at one of the games that the Ref from Center court pointed him out of the stands. He was in the Aisle and had him removed from SAC. That is how quite it can be... I am not saying he didn't deserve to be removed but it was quite enough for him to be easily Identified and removed. Ernie and Bernie were playing if that dates it. Hasn't changed very much.

completely agree with this. I have been to every home game this year but 2, one was because I had a class and one was during the break between semesters. I am always there early and have painted my chest a couple of times and you can always find me in the first two rows. I know for a fact if you lined the court with students like duke and some other schools, it would be pretty intimidating for the other team. I think they should at least put the students behind each basket to get noise coming from both sides of the arena.

That is great that he got pointed out! For the Ole Miss game I was in court side seats with several of my friends with Rocky Top painted on our chests and we got the attention of the refs and opposing players several times throughout the game.

No it's not. It's a big empty arena right now.

It actually is going to be a Bass Pro Shop. They have had the rights for a couple years now and never did anything. They announced either last week or the week before that they were going to move ahead with plans to make the Pyramid a Bass Pro Shop store. If they didn't do something the city was going to make open it back up for bidding and there was an Amusement Park company that was wanting to get it and turn it in to some kind of amusement park place with a roller coaster that went from inside to outside of the place.

To the original topic of the thread: it's hard to get loud when you beat everyone that comes to TBA by 20 points. OSU is the only team that has kept it close and it sounded pretty loud on tv for that one.

Bass Pro hasn't had the rights to anything for any amount of time, nor is anything official happening yet.

Right now the Pyramid is just a big empty arena.

I'm pretty sure Bass Pro had some kind of rights to it. Or at least they were the number 1 suitor for it. They had some sort of deadline with the city council that they had to basically say yay or nay that they were going to take it; and I'm pretty sure that they said yes by that day. I'm not certain, and I'm not sure anyone really is about it, but I think it's up to the city council to determine if that's what they want to do with the empty Pyramid.

Sorry about that Justin, I forgot about the Rebs game.

Once again, I'm not saying everyone can make it, I'm saying if you don't go, don't rag on the crowd. The guy who started this was ragging on lack of noise, but isn't there doing his part. It's B/S.

Make excuses all you want about how you can or can't make it, the fact of the matter is, some folks w/e sacrifice is necessary to be there, and you have no place to criticize them any more than they (we) have to criticize you for not coming.

Yeah - I'd say I do have the right when I make the trip up there constantly and I'm usually 1.5 hours away.

But either way - I was blaming a lot of the crowd noise on the setup of TBA not the people inside.

Like I said, the people who don't go are the ones I'm addressing. Someone who goes to 1 or 2 cheap ticket games have no place criticizing the ones that go every or almost every game. That's been what I've been saying all along, if you normally go, then say whatever, I never said anything different.

Your opinion, like I said, get off your duff and go to the game if you don't like how we are behaving. Otherwise, sit down, shut up, and turn up the volume.

Easy to criticize when you have about an hour drive.

Easy to criticize when you have about an hour drive.

Easy to criticize when you are sitting on your couch.

I live an hour away b/c I choose to. You live more than that b/c you choose to. I could make at least $20k more per year by moving and taking a branch in Texas, but refuse to do so b/c it would put me too far away from UT. That's my choice, my sacrifice.

Now, like I said, it's easy to sit on your couch and be able to use the "I'm so far away" copout, but I choose to stay within driving distance and go support my team, not sit on my couch and criticize those that actually go.

and out comes the all too familiar "I'm a better fan because..." defense

The words "better fan" never even came to mind. I have a hard time believing that it's justifiable for a person who prioritizes so many things above UT athletics that they are unable to attend games to criticize those who put it high enough to be there consistently.

It has nothing to do with being a "better" fan, it's just kind of like a guy who weighs 400 lbs telling a guy who weighs 250 he needs to trim up.

If you had your legs amputated you could score some sweet wheelchair seats.

It's all a matter of the facilities.

If UTK had a little gym the size of a closet, we'd be very loud too. We have an immense Arena, which is VERY loud for its volume!
