Why Do We Still Not Know A QB? Concerning.

For starters, I am usually optimistic and still am.

CJH said this morning that “they will announce a starter when they feel like they’ve (QB) earned it.

Why does UT never announce a QB until 10 mins before kickoff? It seems like we are the only team in CFB who never has a clear cut starter.
It never turns out good when we play this game. What is the secret? Are all 3 not that great and you’re just picking at this point? Concerning that at least 1 of the bunch hasn’t stood out.

I hope I am wrong, but it is never good when you don't know who is leading your team, 10 days before kickoff.
So you never knew that Ainge, Peyton or Dobbs was starting? “Never” is a poor word choice. Like many programs across America, it simply isn’t game week and coach doesn’t want to divulge that info. Take a deep breath guy.

I've never agreed with letting your opponents know who is starting in advance. The same goes with high school football and all this film trading that goes on. Why in the world would you give your opponent any significant advantage?

Gotta agree. A foe forewarned is a foe fore armed. However, I did consult my cholla cacti needles, cracked crystal ball, and xenomorph skeletal fragments. They say CJH will further evaluate his QBs. Bailey will go out in QTR1. Hooker goes in QTR2. The Milt man goes in QTR3. In QTR4, Moore will see limited action, about three series. Then the QB from group 1-2-3 who had the best QTR stats plays the rest of the way. There, you now have the whole juju.

The better question is "Why would they announce a QB before the season?". Whoever it is, the coaches and team likely already know. There is literally no benefit for anyone other than them knowing. The short segments of practice that the media and fans get to see, that we all make our prognostications from, are scripted to show exactly what they want to be seen. You can't take anything from it.

You don't have to know. The team knows who the starter is and who the starter should be. Hopefully, they are one and the same.

(1) not concerning.
(2) stop inventing drama.
(3) it is Milton.
(4) everyone knows it is Milton.
so...
(5) stop inventing drama.

p.s. Too bad there's no such thing as a 4-6-4-8-6 haiku. I think I just invented a new art form. Compared to normal haikus, this feels really robotic. I think it's all the even numbers.
I'd love to see the game day thread if Heupel would send this young man out to start vs BG. BTW.. He did have the best stats in the spring game 😊

What advantage does naming starter give you? Entirely plausible that a few people play to give Pitt more to prepare for.

You think they are going to trot someone out for the first snap in our game that won’t ultimately be the starter? No way. Pitt will know our starter. And Harrison Bailey isn’t coming in the game to give them a ‘wrinkle’ in the offense. They will have the information they need from who we trot out first.

Personally, I like it. Competition for the job in practice is only going to make them better, and we when they get better, we get better.

I don’t think it’s a big deal that he didn’t name a starter today. I think it’s a bigger one if he doesn’t name one prior to Thursday/Friday (the beginning of game week).

Why does anyone need to know who the starting QB is other than the coaches and the actual starter. As long as CJH knows who is game planning for, no one else outside the program needs to know.

More worried about the O-line and D-line depth than QB. I don't think we will see JG#2 with Heupel in charge. I doubt he let's bad decisions makers play from week to week like bubba gump did.

Coach speak..if you don't know Milton will be starting, then you haven't been paying attention.

The big question is will he be starting VS Pitt? He has been pegged as the greatest thing since sliced bread here by VN and the drive-by fans. It's a lot like people saying the team will go 6-6 in Spring and as practice and season gets closer they've got them winning 10. Milton came in losing his job at Michigan and saw writing on the wall for 2021. He came here and went from big-armed QB that would be in a battle to Superman. So naming him starter weeks before the game just adds pressure. It's a bigger fall the more expectations are exacerbated.

There would be reason at all to announce right now really. I’d expect 2 or maybe all 3 QBs to play in the opener. I’m hopeful that Bailey wins. He’s never going to be the presence as a runner that Milton is but he’s got a long track record demonstrating he’ll continually make the right read amd get the ball accurately to the open man.
Milton didn’t win the job back (after injury) with his previous team and then choose to transfer. All that is worrisome to me. Without being there (obviously) I hope Bailey ends up being the man. If he doesn’t get to play he’ll certainly transfer and then we’ll be stuck with Milton. So this is a huge decision
