What MUST Butch Do in 2016...

What mark must Butch meet?

You are correct BUT if Kamara was injured, I am confident that Kelly would fit in nicely.
Also, if Dobbs was injured, then we would likely win all of our games because Dormady can throw every type of pass. We would average over 100 yards per game rushing and over 300 yards per game passing.
Not wishing ill fate on anyone but it may work out better if Dormady was our q.b.

The backup QB wish again?

Butch Jones job is safe in 2016, for all the reasons previously posted. What I hope to see is continued growth in the program - recruiting (own Tennessee and win out of state talent), development (play smarter, better), results (any loss is a costly, hard won victory for the other team). If Jones builds the program to consistently compete in the top echelon of the SEC, Tennessee will be in the top echelon of the FBS. The Ws and Ls will both come. Some years, the Vols will play for championships; some years, they won't. Win more post-season games than not. Be a tough playoff/bowl opponent. Be a team people want to watch. Be the program that inspire opponents fans for years should their team wrest a rare victory from the Vols. Become the program that builds upon the already sizeable Big Orange caravan. Be the team who's traveling fans make the other city's year - our conviviality, our good nature, our generosity, our humility, our appreciation of our hosts, our unparalleled willingness to be parted from our money with nary an ill feeling - a visit from the Vols should leave them fiscally sound, imbued with good will, and wishing for our return.

Who the heck are all these 9-3 people? Are you kidding me!!!

The seven maxims will be manifest. The breaks will go the Vols way. In the face of defeat, impossible victories will be achieved. Never expecting more than to play the next game, the Vols will win. 15 - 0, baby! Team 120 - the Miracle Vols! Many will vie for the rights to produce and broadcast the story. It will be epic! :yahoo:

We're past "continued growth" and "the W's and L's will come". The time to win is now. Everything is in place.

We could if we got Tom Herman. Look at that mans resume, it speaks for itself. He is the next great coach. Any school will be extremely lucky to hire him once he moves on from Houston.

You better be careful. There are some on here that will jump you for that comment. Justin Fuente is the "next great coach".

It's a shame Jones has done such a terrible job at UT. He was handed a team loaded with talent and an atmosphere that was perfect for success and he has just been a flop. No progress on or off the field..

Amirite?

If we're just talking about what the minimum is to not be on hot seat starting next yr?

(A) win sec east OR (B) win 10 games and beat florida

It would probably take 6 losses for him to not be the 2017 coach

Straw man much? Who thinks he has done "a terrible job"?

Don't take my words out of context... I said that as a caveat to IF Team 120 goes 8-4 or worse, and that's barring major injuries.

There are some. But that post is aimed at all the "wish we had this coach or that coach" people. Jones has done an exceptional job and that cannot be debated. Has he been perfect? Nope but no coach is.

exceptional? uhh..no..last year they did about what was expected and the 2 yrs before the same..exceptional is an A or A+; meeting expectations is not exceptional. Exceptional would have been winning the east when you are projected 2nd, and not making asinine and indefensible strategic coaching decisions like going f 1 at the swamp.

I give him a B/B- so far.

From where we were to where we are now? Absolutely exceptional. On and off the field. The team and the program has been rebuilt.

Absolutely nobody. As has been said on VN a million times by hundreds if not thousands of posters, he's done an outstanding job rebuilding a broken program.

which year do you think he exceeded preseason expectations? 2014 at 5-7? 2015? 2016 we went under the vegas win total f chrissakes..I am no butch hater but man..exceptional and that is not debatable, meaning no reasonable person could disagree? Some of you guys go overboard.

Exceptional would mean exceeding expectations by a wide margin..it is hard to see where he ever exceeded them at all.

But a B is a good grade.

Not in this debate but what do you mean we went under the Vegas win total in 2016?

As a whole he has done an exceptional job. Things were so bad coaches were all but running from the job. I remember how bad things were just 3 short years ago. The building has happened.

He has been good - not exceptional, and yes it can be debated. He's only beaten 2 SEC teams with winning records....that's not exceptional.
