We got hosed by Ref Joe Lindsay

UT got hosed both on the out of bounds call with 2.2 seconds and the 3 point foul---terrible calls.

Calm down. If the guys would have played hard for 40 minutes, we would have won. We didn’t put a full game together all season. Our seniors came out flat. Our star player fouled when he didn’t need to in the first and second half. Our point guard with elite speed didn’t use his advantage much(he got blocked on a few possessions, but he could have used his speed to wear them down). Our top free throw shooter missed five free throws. Our coach never attempted to adjust his defense, even after every team seemed to shoot over their season average from three. The refs weren’t great, but we didn’t put ourselves in a position to win that game.
Actually, the team did put themselves in a position to win the game by the way they played during the comeback. They fought from as many as 18 points down to having a 2 point lead with under 9 seconds to play. One very controversial call undid all of that work in a split second. Had the foul not been called, there was ZERO chance there could have been a rebound and put back. This is a case that the referee had a direct impact on the outcome of the game. Good, bad or otherwise, that call changed the outcome of the game. There was nothing left in the tank for another OT game.

Not sure what this attachment is, but it is not the replay that showed the ball going off the players foot. That replay pretty clearly showed the ball hitting the Purdue player's foot, and was from an end court angle, not a mid court angle like this appears to be. This attachment doesn't show anything useful.

Doesn't fit his agenda so he won't mention the other angle that is later in the play.

It happens, but not to championship teams. These NCAA teams are playing balls out. How many 3's did that guy hit closely guarded 5 or 6? Watching the other games, Michigan is the only team UT would have a chance to beat.

Yea, some players rise above others. Purdue has played in three straight SS’s, so their veteran players had been there (and lost twice).

This is true. When they review a play for time, it is when the ref's arm goes into the air.

That premise is true. But they never review it that way anymore.

When they review in football, they stop when the ball hits the ground. When they review in basketball, they watch the ball or TO call. Literally, since review, I have never heard that explanation.

I don't care how many free throws they missed or we missed a referee should never make a call at the end of the game on something that they have been inconsistent about the whole game there's any of time to let something mynute like that go it was in that situation

I’m in Poland and missed the game. However I am sure that there were some games in which the refs made questionable calls in our favorable
We shouldn’t have even been in this situation. Losing by 12 at half time??
If we had a good lead on the 4th, we could have overcome the refs calls

I hate these “arguments”. The “we should’ve never been in this position” type of crap. When good teams play one doesn’t always blow out the other. In a tough close game the refs should be held more accountable for bs calls. The foul was bs. The clock at the end was clearly started before anyone touched the ball was bs regardless if it was a dumb play call with less than 2 seconds remaining. If we were Duke there’s a 100% chance that foul isn’t called.

How does a game end when the ball hasn't been touched yet....The buzzer sounded when it was in the air....This can't be right.

Unfortunately in the heat of the moment, Turner got too close to the shooter, and let the ref decide the game...Forget the missed free throws, and all the rest, if Turner doesn't barely touch the shooter, Vols win.

It was exciting, but what a heart breaker.

Would you have rather Turner leave him wide open and take a risk?

I don’t blame Turner for trying to play tight defense on Edwards. He shot the 3 ball extremely well all night.

Did the officials make a couple of questionable calls?: Yes. However, we missed half of our FTs, missed on some threes, and Schofield and Williams didn't turn it on until the second half of the game and digging out of a deep hole. Yes, we got back in the game and the refs made some bad calls. But like I said before, we shouldn't put the game in the hands of the refs. If we made more FTs, had some threes go in, and Admiral and Grant weren't ice cold in the first half, we would still be playing Saturday. But we blew it and now headed back home.

Tennessee needs to shoot better from the line. The calls were terrible at the end but we put the refs in a situation to influence the game. Control your own destiny when you can

The Purdue possession was definitely "bang-bang" calls, but no one is even mentioning the time situation on the ensuing Tennessee possession. The refs reviewed it, then gave the dumb, cheap explanation of "not being able to hear." The clock started running a half second before Grant Williams even caught the ball. You do not have to hear that.

No we've got hosed by a ****** first half performance. We are a double digit better team than Purdue. Until we learn that a basketball game is two halves we will let inferior teams beat us.

This team Has been a pleasure to follow this season. They are such a class act and to have their season taken away by an official is downright atrocious, but typical for Tennessee sports. The foul on the 3 pointer was complete BS. In addition, the ball went off their players ankle and the officials couldn't even get it right after reviewing the call. Joe Lindsay was the official that stole our Elite 8 and possible Final 4. We are now 3-3 this year in games he has called. So 3 of our 6 losses were officiated by the same official. He called 6 of our 7 fouls in the first half tonight. Joe Lindsay also called the foul on LaMonte Turner with 1 second left that let Purdue tie the game which even the pundits are already talking about what a bad call that was. Let that sink in for a minute. Thanks Joe Lindsay for ruining what was going to be an historic season in Tennessee basketball history.
Very enlightening, unless you murder someone you don’t call a foul on the last possession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just off the top of my head. Kentucky and UGA at TBA. Gonzaga on the neutral court. Next time stay awake for the whole game and you might see them put an entire game together.

Did they have games where they didnt show up for a portion of the game? Yep, but your statement was still ridiculous.
Kansas is another

Forget about the first 39:51 of the game, it came down to Purdue’s final possession, Tennessee defended well, ref intervened.

Stop being like Kentucky and blaming the refs. We should of never got into that situation. Vols played bad in first half plus if UT makes free throws the end of that game doesn't even matter. Tennessee lost because they missed alot of free throws.

No it wasn’t. It could have gone either way, but when viewed from above, it sure looked like some of the ball was over the rim (albeit a very small part). Again, could have gone either way.

The ball was not off Edwards at the end of regulation, and that was a legit foul call on Turner.

Now, I feel like they let Edwards push off too much with an extended arm way too many times, but that didn’t cause us to lose.

The tip back that LSU beat Kentucky on earlier this year, was closer to being inside the cylinder than that one.

Well said by all 3. I'm sorry but there really isn't much of an argument you can give that defends that call.

My only disagreement is when Stephen A said something along the lines of "That call could've ended up costing Tennessee the game." That did cost us the game. The refs literally did the equivalent of running over strapping on the defibrillator pads to Purdue's chest and brought them back to life. Without that call, that game is over. Period...

And I know refs are human and mistakes happen but with the news that Lamonte had told the refs he was doing it all game and to keep an eye out, that's far more than a mistake. It's blatant incompetence.
