Von Pearson Update

They are public servants...as taxpayers, we can call and inquire. We have that right. They have the right to tell us nothing as well. Maybe we should start a petition. Not to get Von reinstated, but at least finish the process. They have this young man in limbo based on an accusation.

It's highly unlikely that anyone calling the DA to inquire on the case of a UT football player is a net tax payer

Yeah even though he called me back, I'm not so sure it will help if others call. We need a big whig with some pull to call. Quality, not quantity.

FYI - "Gary" is actually the janitor in the DA's office and you were probably on speaker phone in another room

Calling Deans and DAs?

Posting their info on a message board?

I think the whole thing is an absolute mess but Jesus people, get a frigging grip.

You fools are going to get us put in the national spotlight and its going to be an awful look for UT and VN.

And 5,000 UT "fans" calling their office demanding a status update on a pending matter will speed up their work?

As opposed to going unchecked every single day and have no one to answer too? Typically common sense would tell you that sitting calmly, peacefully in an office taking your time would be perfect, no reason to rush, just live life and enjoy the process, don't work to hard or rush anything:/ no incentive.

Or

Realize you are pissing off a lot of people by taking your ever so sweet time, sure it will piss them off being bothered but also would bring unwanted attention at any level. And plus at very least having the phone ring non stop gets annoying, knowing the phone calls could stop as soon as you finish the job you started might give allot more incentive.

Again, I firmly believe in everyone having someone to answer too. I'm sure someone will give an example of the opposite, but in general that is true.

Imagine this, if you have a report/paper/....general task... If you have no time limit to accomplish it then how long would you honestly take? Now imagine having a deadline put on to it after months of your work. Deadlines always seemed to make me work harder and actually get after it. Maybe I'm the only one:/

I'm not necessarily saying calling them is the answer, but them having pressure one way or the other is the answer.

If it was "indecent exposure", Tennessee statute classifies that as a misdemeanor and a $500 fine with no jail for a first or second offense.

National spotlight? For some fans calling the DA? Hmmm, not sure I follow.

Funny how everyone gets on the forum and isn't happy with the lack of progress over months of waiting, but as soon as one man calls the DA to inquire people gets nervous.
I seriously doubt fans calling the DA will draw the national spotlight.

Already got a call back...a man named Gary from the DA office called me and explained that there are lots of variables that go into cases like these. It can start as a regular investigation and then once they determine it's a dead end that they'll want to take it to a grand jury to decide if the case should be brought before a court. That's a separate process and can essentially start the investigating process over. That could be what's taking so long.

I then asked if there were any circumstances that would be in place to ask them to expedite that process. He said unless there's someone/a suspect that comes forward and claims responsibility or admits to it then it's pretty clean cut from there. From the innocent side there's really nothing you can do.

Gary even asked if I had anymore questions after I apologized for taking his time. He couldn't share any specifics to the Von case and said he honestly doesn't know much about the situation at all. He just focuses on his work and isn't involved with that.

I know this doesn't help much, but thought I'd share since he called me back.

Would be nice if they called Von's lawyer back.

Not sure if this got buried too quickly, but it wasn't a big deal. I probably shouldn't have posted the contact information, but I also don't think it's harmful that people know who's office it is in the DA.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to stand and do nothing (Edmund Burke).. I may not know what to do, but I'm trying to do something. "Foolish" isn't what I've done, it's what you're not doing.

How many other people have you called the DA's office about? Oh, this is your first time? Way to take a principled stand simply because the guy plays football

The nice young lady that gave you the name and number is probably unemployed right now. Or at the very least, getting a serious talking to right now.

At least today we have social media in place of pitchforks and torches. Good thing, since it looks like the villagers are starting to gather.

I'm not denying that since he's a UT football player that I have more affinity for his situation. Furthermore, I think his specific situation has brought some issues to light.

You're right...first time calling the DA to stand up for someone. So what?

Maybe we shouldn't be calling the DA. Maybe we should be calling media outlets to let them know that the fans want an update. We have questions we want answered.

@utvolpj - I want to know not only as a UT fan, but just as regular citizen who is concerned about a young man.
