Von Pearson Update

He's being investigated for rape. The rape kit is negative. Close the case. Let everyone involved go one with their life. if the alleged victim feels that she was wronged, she can go to civil court.

Good for the lawyer! Throwing some names around, making people accountable!

Although I'd have done it a month ago if I was his lawyer.

I agree. He'll if he's up for a rape charge and the kit comes back negative .Stop this crazy investigation and give the guy his life back.

I have given up hope on him playing this season. Between the Feds and AJs trial coming up I am not expecting his return. I could and probably am wrong but I just think this is going to drag on well into the season.

I predict that VP will be completely exonerated from all criminal charges, but will be found guilty of violating the UT code of conduct and suspended for a year. The Office of Student Life does not care about right or wrong, as their view is guilty until proven 100% innocent. If there is the slightest doubt of innocence, they will view him the same as if he had raped her on the 50 yard line during the Alabama game at halftime. And they view ANY accusation as doubt of innocence.

There has to be a reason why they are treating him like a depraved sexual predator. I mean if he was one, he would be locked up by now don't you think?

VP is between a rock and a hard place to be. As VOL fans, we are asking him to stick around because most of us truly believe he is innocent, however the University does not desire to move forward nor the DA more than likely because of the Title IX investigation involving 147 universities.

It appears that they are waiting on a "I gotcha Moment" and the more the authorities delay actions the more the story get more distorted. A lack of decision in the case paralyses all parties and puts VPs future at much greater risk.

He is stuck --- can't move forward nor can he walk away from this mess, even if he is innocent. If he is guilty evidently there is not enough evidence to support a charge of rape. If he committed the rape, He would have charged, dismissed from the team and sent packing.

As a result of the actions or lack thereof, It appears the KDP, DA and School does not have the evidence to charge him but fear the appearance it will send if they dismiss the charges. #Catch22

People are found innocent everyday against false or baseless accusations. If that is true, they are overthinking the process. The are purposely delaying the wheels of justice, which is more of an injustice in and of itself.

Agree. With all the emphasis in College and the NFL, It is a "better get this right" and whatever you do don't follow the FSU model and sweep it under the rug.

We may still be having this discussion Mid Season or in January.

Paralysis of Analysis.

The Office of Student Life does not care about baseless accusations, as long as there is an accusation. Remember this office is staffed by former professional prosecutors whose job it is to grill students and punish all students who have allegations against them. Hopefully VP lawyered up before he talked with them (which they don't like as "they just want a simple conversation with the accused") or he's done at UT.

I know that I don't have a right to know exactly what's going on in the case, but do I have a right to know what is taking so long and why there is no movement?

No, you don't unless you are directly affected.

Contacting anyone in such a manner is foolish

They are public servants...as taxpayers, we can call and inquire. We have that right. They have the right to tell us nothing as well. Maybe we should start a petition. Not to get Von reinstated, but at least finish the process. They have this young man in limbo based on an accusation.

No joke...just called the Knox County DA's office and asked who I could speak with regarding ongoing investigations and the kind young woman directed me to a Mr. Leland Price.

Knox County Tennessee District Attorney General

Phone 865.215.2515 - I left a voicemail.

I also would like to add that the school and the DA need to have alittle pressure put on them. When you have no one to answer to the job seems to take longer in any field. Letting people know who it is that's doing a poor job might be that pressure they need to finally act.

I know everyone says these things take time, but as someone that doesn't work in an office and actual results is part of my day to day, that's what I look for. For instance, I wonder what the DA is doing today, surely something happens each day... I'm also aware the DA has other cases as well.

I'm a firefighter and general contractor, as a general contractor if you don't hit up the subs on a daily basis then things drag out and things WILL NOT GET DONE! I for some reason feel the same about this. Sounds like they have no one to answer to, thus nothing will come of it for a long time.

Already got a call back...a man named Gary from the DA office called me and explained that there are lots of variables that go into cases like these. It can start as a regular investigation and then once they determine it's a dead end that they'll want to take it to a grand jury to decide if the case should be brought before a court. That's a separate process and can essentially start the investigating process over. That could be what's taking so long.

I then asked if there were any circumstances that would be in place to ask them to expedite that process. He said unless there's someone/a suspect that comes forward and claims responsibility or admits to it then it's pretty clean cut from there. From the innocent side there's really nothing you can do.

Gary even asked if I had anymore questions after I apologized for taking his time. He couldn't share any specifics to the Von case and said he honestly doesn't know much about the situation at all. He just focuses on his work and isn't involved with that.

I know this doesn't help much, but thought I'd share since he called me back.
