Von Pearson Update

I don't think you're dumb, '87, but I do think maybe you're a little naive.

The average American is entirely blind to the extent of protection they receive just by virtue of living in a land governed by the rule of law and policed in the enforcement of those laws. You don't even need ever to see a policeman to be protected by this culture; you are protected nonetheless.

The most extreme alternative is anarchy. None of us in VN have ever experienced anarchy, unless a VFL out there spent time in Somalia. The closest I personally ever came was Haiti; it was a lot like the wild west of America's early 1800s ... but even that wasn't true anarchy, because of the US military and our 'friendly invasion' in parts of the country.

No, here's true anarchy: if I'm stronger than you, I whip the crap out of you and take your stuff. If I'm richer than you, I hire some young guns to take over your town and make it mine. The only law is the law of raw brutal power. And 99% of us would be the virtual slaves of those rich enough to hire the biggest posse. You have weapons in your night stands? Great, I and my crew will take them when we come to establish our hegemony over you and your family. That's anarchy. It is inherently unstable and almost always gives way to dictatorship of those with the most raw power.

I deplore the loss of life at the hands of policemen. Or any men. Fact is, though, the vast, vast majority of cops are there to serve their communities, and do the best they can while spending most of their time interacting with the parts of society who respect the law least.

So generalizing from a limited number of heart-breaking incidents is pretty naive. You don't need to use those weapons you keep in your night stands on a daily basis because you live in a country where the rule of law reigns. You can thank the nation's police forces for much of that.
Your total is now 2100... well said.

Once again JP speaks the truth with a clarity that is unparrelled on this board. I appreciate it JP.

I venture to say that you are young and dumb. those things in both night stands can't handle every situation. you sound like a real dumb ass.

While I personally think it's a terrible idea to judge a group of people by individual actions, allow me to point something out. When I was younger, a group of older guys chased me and my friends into a house where our parents were having a party because one of our dumb friends gave them the finger. They proceeded to try and break in and smashed many windows. The parents called 911 because they wouldn't leave, but fortunately did finally. The police took 3 hours to arrive. A couple of my friends have experienced the same thing with attempted break-ins.

The point is, there is a lot of truth to the statement, when seconds matter, the police are only minutes (sometimes hours) away.

Before you criticize someone who refuses to be a victim, think before you insult. I'll definitely call the police, but I'll also tell them I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it if said person gets inside my home. If they arrive in time, great, problem solved, but I find it more encouraging to know my safety is in my own hands rather than praying they arrive just in time to bag and tag me.

This thread just gets worse and worse every day.

I say we just delete this thread and start a new Von Pearson thread.

Make sure it has the word Update in it, because if it doesn't no one will provide or post any updates.

Going off the last two pages, I'd vote to change the name of this thread to Menstruating Over The Von Pearson Update. :yuck:
