says the person that thinks all of his problems can be handled with a firearm. who are you shaft?
"all his problems" no not at all, way to completely pull my comments out of context. The comment was in direct response to something along the lines of "I bet you're the first to call the cops when etc etc" That implies that in the instance of trouble at my home, I would spring and do back flips trying to make it to my cell phone for the cops to come save me. That is so far from reality it isn't funny. That doesn't mean I'm Homer Simpson on the episode where he gets a carry permit and I'm going to change the channel on my tv with my gun, or open my beer with one. Good lord.
This cat just wants to get the dooky Storm to stop spinning
Don't worry come August there will be more to talk about than when to call the Po and who's ego is big enough not to and to do so
I don't think you're dumb, '87, but I do think maybe you're a little naive.
The average American is entirely blind to the extent of protection they receive just by virtue of living in a land governed by the rule of law and policed in the enforcement of those laws. You don't even need ever to see a policeman to be protected by this culture; you are protected nonetheless.
The most extreme alternative is anarchy. None of us in VN have ever experienced anarchy, unless a VFL out there spent time in Somalia. The closest I personally ever came was Haiti; it was a lot like the wild west of America's early 1800s ... but even that wasn't true anarchy, because of the US military and our 'friendly invasion' in parts of the country.
No, here's true anarchy: if I'm stronger than you, I whip the crap out of you and take your stuff. If I'm richer than you, I hire some young guns to take over your town and make it mine. The only law is the law of raw brutal power. And 99% of us would be the virtual slaves of those rich enough to hire the biggest posse.
I deplore the loss of life at the hands of policemen. Or any men. Fact is, though, the vast, vast majority of cops are there to serve their communities, and do the best they can while spending most of their time interacting with the parts of society who respect the law least.
So generalizing from a limited number of heart-breaking incidents is pretty naive. You don't need to use those weapons you keep in your night stands on a daily basis because you live in a country where the rule of law reigns. You can thank the nation's police forces for much of that.
I agree with the majority of what you say. What angers me is when police get off for said incidents because a board of police, polices the police. Or because someone wouldn't cross their thin blue line to rat out a fellow officer who did wrong. People like the individual I originally responded to see things in black and white. To them you're either on the blue team, or the red team. Cop supporter, or cop basher. I do not wish for anarchy. I do agree police deserve a degree of leniency because at times have split seconds to make life/death decisions, but I can be FOR police accountability and also FOR just, law enforcement. It's not a red team/blue team paradigm.
LOL, you think they should get paid more? Look at the people that become cops...the 2 people I went to high school with that became cops were basic ass C students and losers with no friends, and they think being a cop will finally give them respect. Well, they're in for a rude awakening though when they realize it's 2015 and hardly anyone respects or trusts cops anymore...and less so every day when another cop goes full retard and kills another unarmed suspect.
People become cops because their life didn't go as planned and they couldn't get a real job, so they thought they'd finally be "cool" and respected, so they took a job that nearly anyone qualifies for. Not saying that all cops are losers with an iq under 60 and but far more than any other "profession".
