I voted wrong, had my screen brightness down , rushing a lunch break, I think UT treated Jancek fairly he had a pretty good run at UT, I wish we could see what he could bring next season, he showed improvement motivating and strategy wise this year , I wish him the best of luck! He will be a great DC

:good!: With the explanation being that "we went to the well one too many times"...in other words called the same defense over and over again and somehow believed that Mac wouldn't draw up a play just for it after the time out! We were improved, so I don't mean to bash the guy, but that is just not acceptable. This isn't EA sports!

Wow we got some testy posters today! If a thread doesn't interest you why can't you just go on to the next one?...You do know that it's not required to click on everyone of them and then leave a post that absolutely adds nothing to the conversation?

Really? you might be right..I just remember being excited about stealing one from Saban and getting a guy that had just won a NC

While I have no idea what's going on, my gut says that there was some sort of personal disagreement here. I wouldn't say Jancek was the best DC in the nation, but he's done a very good job here. By the end of the season, I'd say our defense was around the top 10 - 15 in the nation. I don't think you simply give someone the boot on mere speculation that you can upgrade from the 10th best DC in the nation to the 8th best DC (or something like that).

That said, hope Butch has someone good lined up. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on Bob Shoop or if the rumors are true (of course, I didn't think the Jancek rumors were true either).

Not sure where you get you estimate of our defensive rank. The following is from ncaa stats. I only listed categories in top 30
Nationally:
3rd Down defense: #3
Red zone defense: #17
Scoring defense : #16
pass effeciency defense: #16

Most thought the hire was good at the time. After the NC State game it went sideways.

Many thought myself include that he was a 3-4 guy and the Vols had 4-3 personnel. It was a pretty bad fit. Dooley even tried to take over the D late in the season to "fix" it. The players just were always out of position and looked lost and it was basically the same guys Justin Wilcox had a pretty descent defense with the year before.

He was terrible but most loved his early press conferences. He talked a lot of smack about how good the defense was going to be and how they were picking it up and then reality hit.

I wonder if those Jancek tweets/retweets are still up? If it were an alcohol fueled Twitter rage he might have deleted in a clearer state
