Did UT Treat Jancek Unfairly?

Dunno. I'm not really buying that it was off the field. I recently read that if you're friends with someone for something like 7 years, you're friends for lifetime. Jancek followed Jones to 2 different schools and has been under him that long. Why would they all of a sudden not be able to get along?

The defense got worse this year (yards per play) with better personnel/experience on that side of the ball along with weaker opposing offenses on the schedule.

I don't think it was an easy decision, but I think it was football related. They probably butted heads about defensive strategies, Jancek ultimately decided how to call it, and it cost us games. It cost us the Florida and OK games and nearly cost us GA and SC as well. Jancek was a fine coach, and I'm all for consistency if he were retained, but this is an opportunity for an upgrade IMO.

I hope it was football related based on one rumor going around about what the "off the field issue" could be. Sometimes relationships just go sour for any number of reasons. Swain seems to think it was a personal relationship issue vs a football issue. Who knows?

I'll be curious to hear from Doug Mathews this weekend to see if he concurs or offers something different.

3rd and Chavis...Baylor 650 yards vs Chizik...those guys seem to be employed and making coin

You could be the best coach in the world but if you don't have talented players you're not going to be successful. A guy like Chizik could come in here with the talent Tennessee has and really do something special. I personally like Chief as well but I don't see him back here

There's one rumor going around regarding Jancek that just seems ridiculous as it was presented IMO. Swain just kinda said that Jones and Jancek weren't "getting along" without offering the reason(s) why. Not sure we'll ever know, but considering what you wrote in your post which was very true, I found it almost hard to believe that the relationship went so badly wrong that Jones had to fire him...but that appears to have happened here.

"Not getting along" most likely translates to not agreeing philosophically. Not that they didn't have the same musical taste.

I don't know about the behind the scenes relationship but there is no doubt that our defense was improved under Jancek. I also think he was underpaid. He made 500k a year, which was 65th highest among FBS DCs.
Well, there you have it, don't you. W/o knowing the whole story this is kinda dumb.

Everybody loves the drama, I guess, whether it's based in reality or not.

Poll should have been yes or no. If so "no" would be over 90%. Even with that answer split 3 ways "yes" looks like the Whig Party candidate. :wink2:

If CBJ feels like the D needs to go in a different direction, than so be it. Maybe he could have let him go after the reg season instead of after the bowl game. Would have given him a better chance to land at a good program. The vast improvement in the 2nd half of the season was against teams that had struggling offenses. I was fine with coach JJ, I just hope CBJ already knows who, and is just holding out a few days to announce.

I don't think that it was a football decision. Coaches do other things than coach. It's these other things that caused the separation, imo. Not an insider. Don't have a link. Don't check my stats; it won't help.

yes, where did that "BSIA" argument go?

seems like only yesterday ......

There was never an "argument". Buncha guys mumbling it like a mantra for 3 years. :)

Define "wrong". Identify what the basis of the definition is.

2016 is the Whig party's comeback tour!

These polls have ventured into full retard territory...

So have posters that open threads that they have no interest in and then take the time to post remarks that add nothing to the conversation

I don't know is only answer any of us really should have. Maybe yes, maybe no, but very, very few on here know (myself included).

I voted on the poll and then my contribution to the conversation was to say it was retarded... So check and mate, broseph...

So many other threads and you choose to spend time in one that you find retarded? You must have an incredible life

You're asking if JJ was wrongly fired but none of us know the interpersonal relationships of the coaches. This is what i know for fact: Our defense improved, yes. However, there were some strange schemes called considering opponents, and down & distance. The defense did not create turnovers on par with expectations. Most baffling, our 3rd down defense was outstanding while our 4th down defense was non existent when using the same personnel for the most part.

Are these significant enough to terminate someone? Beats me. But, if CBJ has an opportunity to upgrade the defensive coaching and doesn't pull the trigger, he is NOT the right steward for UT's football program.

I heard after the bowl game that Jancek told Butch that he didn't think DnB was an "actual genre of music." Things escalated quickly from there...

Yeah good post..it was the questionable situational stuff that led Clay Helton to not retain Justin Wilcox

The bold means neither you or anyone can answer your question, which CLEARLY insinuates that Butch did something wrong! So mods please close this dumb thread! :salute:
