I too am very surprised by this, and I am among those who think Jancek did a good job. You can't blame the blown games early in the season on the defense. The offense did NOTHING--ZERO--in the second half of the OU game and suxed in the florida game as well. Yes, I agree that not blitzing in a crucial passing situation is STUPID and I'll never understand why coaches do the opposite and rush three as any half competent QB will complete passes if he can stand comfortably in the pocket. But my point is: You have to score points in the second half: You are not going to beat OU and top SEC teams with the offense we had early in the season. You aren't going to pitch shutouts--this is college football; teams score, and you have to score too. In any case, something about this had to have been personal, or maybe money--but the fact that Jancek doesn't have another job lined up yet, apparently, is telling. He was a very solid coach who impressed me when talking about his unit--and if Jones sacked him because of the blown games than I'm extremely disappointed in Jones. The head guy COULD f--k this up with a poor hire. Let's hope he does the opposite and brings in somebody stout. But it's a risky move.
