good point, the most i ever benched was 300 pounds. not too bad i guess since i only weigh 175. Anyhow, if an average joe like me can increase 50 pounds in 7 weeks, then why is a bonfide NCAA progam with millions of dollars poured into the S&C only seeing gains of 25 pounds?

"Do you work out at Vince's? Oh,I guess not, I would have seen you since I'm there every day. How much do you squat?"

"You go first."

"We'll go at the same time"

<inaudible>

"You didn't say anything."

"Ahh, neither did you." <dumb laughter>

"You see Star Wars?"

"About 10 times."

"A lot of people tell me I look like Han Solo."

"Really?"

Did you have the conversation with yourself first?

Not impressed really.

My friend showed me a program in increase my bench by 50 pounds in 7 weeks, and it worked, several times.

Google "newbie gains". Try to replicate that percentage of gains once you start benching around 375-400 lbs. Then you'll be impressed.

A few hours ago, one of the UT guys on the govolsxtra twitter feed, quoted the new strength coach as saying Bray's mentality towards training and the strength program has improved 100%

Wait, how does that work? Ok, hold on. . . . . .

there, I just increased my mentality toward writing the next great American novel by 200%!

Now, will I actually do any writing?

Benching 30lbs ten times may add up to 300, but they are actually lifting 300 each time.

Way to look like a complete moron, and provide nothing of any substance.

Ouch, pretty harsh response for just a comment that increasing mentality is easy, but actually putting in the work is more difficult.

Good thing I read the original tweet that said both his "approach and mentality" have increased. That is markedly different than just an attitude adjustment.

Speaking of attitude adjustments, bad day?

Actually it is pretty impressive considering all the football conditioning they are doing on top of the weight training...it's funny to see these guys in the gym that are strong as can be but if they had to run 100ft they would probably double over and pass out...trust me i know, I'm one of them.

GBO!

There are programs out there that will do it in 4 week. I have tried them and they work, but repeating the workout will not give you the same increase the second time, diminishing returns The programs usually involve heavy lifting which increases the chance of injury.

"We've increased our bench by 25lbs a guy, our squats are increased by 40 or 50lbs, we've got significantly faster."

"We've made some huge strides, but we've got a long way to go still."

This progress in 8 weeks.

Makes you wonder what Wilye(sp) was doing. I had concerns about him from the start. I think we have a much better S&C coach now.

My question is, is this a normal occurrence in the spring? I mean the guys are coming back from a break and I would expect the strength to improve. Just as it will in the fall after a long summer.

They have their numbers on a board in the training room. It also includes their times.

Does anyone know the details? What is the workout routine he has given them and how is it different then what they were doing?

I don't like to rain on anyone's parade, but those kind of strength increases are usualy accompanied by a weight gain, not necessarily a bad thing and in a lot of cases was probably needed. But he did say they got faster. Just curious how he changed things, I thought our last S&C coach was good.
