Russia is far more invested in this part of the world than we are or should be.
While I think our intentions have been good, unlike what Pacer or Ras think, we just can't win this, nor can the Ukrainians.
The Russians have geography, money (yes, believe it or not), history, and time on their side.
I sometimes think of Putin doing his little Russian rendition of the Rolling Stones' "Time is on My Side" while reading his morning papers, as he always does.
Look, it's over. Done. If you or anyone else think we should really give military equipment to Ukraine, then I have to respectfully disagree and call you crazy as hell. All Putin is going to do then is raise the ante, and he's just right across the border (not 10,000 miles away like us).
Putin has won. It's done. If the Ukrainians want to keep fighting for the Donbass, then let them. That's their prerogative, and I don't blame them. But it will be a useless fight, and I sincerely hope the US does not get involved.
As I have said, however, should Russia push for more than what it's gotten thus far, than it will have a holy war for which it has not bargained. And it will not win.
Putin should stop while he's ahead, and I think he will. The Donbass and Crimea are his.
Let's end this. It's done. It's over. Time for people to stop suffering and let us all just move on.
People said Chamberlain was weak and crazy. Chamberlain was neither. Chamberlain just actually cared about people, unlike Churchill. What in the hell was the point of British or French dying for the godforsaken Sudenland, et al?
I'll go ahead and answer that: there was none.
But, yes, Hitler had to have more, so now Chamberlain looks like a weak idiot. But he really wasn't.
