Ukraine Protests

Right Sektor IS an official group... Who is really arguing that they don't exist or are not official?

and what threat have they posed to Ukraine so far? seems like right now they are more friendly than the Russians. whether or not i agree with their politics is inconsequential; it seems like they are an elected party that has various roles in the government. If they have roles in the government that shifts the realm of extremist within that particular government. and i still have not heard of them performing war crimes like their Russian nazi friends you like to ignore. and again as long as they aren't using Russian tactics to gain votes I don't see how it is any of our business who Ukraine elects.

Absolutely???

Right Sector's political ideology has been characterized as nationalist,[14][15] ultranationalist,[16][17] neofascist,[18] right-wing,[19] or far right.[20][21][22][23] Right Sector was the second-most mentioned political group in Russian media during the first half of 2014; Russian state TV depicted it as neo-Nazi.[24][25] The Associated Press and other international news organizations found no evidence that the group had committed hate crimes.[17]

In the 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election Yarosh as a Right Sector candidate won a parliament seat by winning a single-member district with 29.8% of the votes.[26] In the same election Right Sector spokesperson Boryslav Bereza as an independent candidate also won a seat and district with 29.4% of the votes.[4]

On April 5, 2015, Kiev appointed Yarosh as an advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.[27]

they have two votes and an advisory role. yeah they are running ukraine.

It's not about the law in itself, it's the consequences or lack thereof.

Our prisons are overflowing with criminals that are slapped on the wrist, in and out of prison repeatedly. Our answer is to just let them out because prisons are overflowing! You and I pay for this enabling system.

Why not have a system that deters people from committing violent crimes? I know this doesn't completely answer your question, but I think you get the gist. Harsher penalties and restrictions are required IMO. Everything can't be okay.

This country is rotting beneath us because of our liberal ways. Let's let other countries elect their own politicians that make their own laws that benefit them and stop trying to force our way of life on everyone in the world..

You do realize Russia has a homicide/violent crime rate 2-3 times higher than ours, right?

The problem with our prison system is not its violent offenders so much as the fact we often put people in prison for nonsense.

Listen to your logic. America has the highest incarceration rate, yet it does not punish people enough?

What do you want? A Saudi-type system where we behead people or chop their hands off?

A Saudi that is our ally? It's sad that we turn our heads at their atrocities yet shine light on lesser ones. That's another sad topic.

Americans know they'll be out in a couple of years to rape and murder more, and the govt knows it too. Our system feeds crime...

Any suggestions mr. logical??

Ras is probably unaware this happened in another thread, so bump:

Pretty sure ideas are being misunderstood. Ras catches a lot of flack for saying leave it alone, but that's a far cry from "Russia doesn't mean any harm."

Ummm, seriously?

I will gladly admit I'm wrong if you show me the post where Ras said Russia has innocent intentions.

Not just Ras, but more than a few keep playing the "Russians are victims" talk.

Give me a bit and I'll dig up some jewels.

This one pretty much alludes directly to "Russia is the innocent defender of democratic freedom" line:

No it doesn't. He is arguing that US should stay out of it. That we don't have a right to interfere.

That's where it ended

I don't get your point. First you talk about there being 2 million people in prison. Then you apparently argue we need more people in prison.

And Russia has a lower crime rate than the United States?

I never said we need more people in prison. I'm saying if the consequences were more severe then less people would be in jail.

Obviously the criminals aren't being deterred by the consequences they face..

Now the Nazis are running wild in the US! Racism and extremism are soaring here, and our government is condoning it!

http://rt.com/politics/252317-ukraine-nazi-dolgov-russia/

The surge of movements that preach racial hatred is taking place in Ukraine and the USA despite the fact that they were among the supporters of the UN resolution on opposing the Nazi and racist tendencies in modern politics, prepared by Russia and passed by the General Assembly in December last year.

That's some rock solid composition, right there!

Russia doesn't even have a death penalty, yet has much higher crime rates and homicide rates.

Perhaps we should try public executions, like quartering, again?

OK, with unrestricted sentencing guidelines, what would a Judge Pacer92 do with someone convicted of a DUI, for example?

Guillotine them!

Seriously, Its not so much the first time offenders, sans rape, murder, robbery etc., because we are human and prone to eff up on occasion. For me it's the repeat offenders of any crime, especially that of harder crimes, that are allowed to walk our streets after only a minimal time in prison.
