Ukraine Protests

It's funny how the French have recently looked down on Americas involvement in Ukraine and the Middle East. The delivery of ships to Russia was also a barrier between the two.

Let's get them fully on our team...

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but do you mean to imply that you believe that Kremlin nonsense? That America is behind these attacks in Paris? That is to say, further, that you believe what comes out of a government that just apparently banned LGBT people from operating motor vehicles?

I thought this was worth posting again (I think Velo has posted it before) for our resident "America is responsible for everything bad that has ever happened in the history of the world" group.

Speculative and not conclusive but much more reasoned than the majority of the nonsense that crowd typically posts to support their pre-determined conclusions.

I never claimed I believed nor did I even read the Kremlin article, but there is evidence that these men had training in order to pull off such a thing.

I'm not claiming it was the US at all, but you can't discredit the fact that the US pushes the anti-Islam rhetoric to it's faithful followers. There is something everyday on the front page of the USAToday that is slamming either Muslims or Russia. And it's of no coincidence that it's inserted into our local papers. Joseph Geobbels would be proud..

Here's a novel idea: Russian propaganda is even more vitriolic than ours. (Not sure where you got the "slamming Muslims" part; if anything, our media is too kind to Islamic jihadists.) Do you think that, maybe, just maybe, people can be influenced by them as well?

Now, I know you, along with Rasputin, are the biggest American exceptionalists on this forum (by which I mean that you two construct America has the only country on Earth capable of acting out of its own volition while all others are just passive observing piss-ants), but you should really consider this alternative perspective. Afterall, you're a man who's apparently very big on alternative viewpoints.

the shooters are claimed to be part of AQAP, an Al-Quieda group from somewhere, I know i read it but i have forgotten. while the US was dumb enough to help with the founding and start of AQ, i don't believe there is any realistic claim that the US is guiding them now. Why aren't China and Russia being hit, or pretty much any Southern Asian or American countries? Sweden has a long history of telling the US to stay out of its business but remains cordial bc they like us better than Russia, wouldn't a few terrorist attacks swing em our way???? you can't claim that when something bad happens to someone who talked bad about us is our fault when there is more proof that it doesn't happen, what was the last BRICS country to be attacked? seeing as how that is the downfall of America.

and while i realize the second part is spoken in hyperbole to an extent. there is also an extensive amount of coverage bashing the people in charge of the US as well. it all depends on what you want to buy into.

its sad that many Islamic papers and news sources have used harsher language against the Paris attacks than us.

The 20committee post I linked about Russia and al-Qaeda may help explain that. Yes, Russia gets attacked but never by them.

I'm not sure what his point was concerning our media and Muslims. Made no sense. Maybe he's just upset that American media is largely competent in its reporting unlike the Russian media.

I don't know if i would use the words competent and reporting when talking about our media.

Not upset at all. What I was referring to was MSM and their attempt to exploit any and every opportunity to demonize Islam in order to further it's never ending agenda of fighting middle eastern wars for profit..

right, which is why i read so many stories about the need for us to stay out of Iraq and Syria. Stories questioning our involvement and just letting them be. articles about our wasted money funding the 'moderate rebels'(very very bad move by the US imo). while there are certainly more calling for an escalation the one pushing the opposite are out there too. every once in a while even a big guy will run a story about the "Cost of War in the Middle East"

I guess I just don't see it that way. I don't even think Fox News is that unfair to Islam, although you may have a case there.

Good point. I was probably waxing a bit too hyperbolic there; however, when compared to most other national medias, ours is pretty damn solid, despite its flaws.

After rebels hit a bus with artillery, killing 10 civilians, Poroshenko will sign a decree for the next wave of Ukrainian military mobilization. Seems as if they nonexistent cease fire could be coming to an end.

can you sum it for those of us without the time (or bandwidth) to watch it?

Nothing really covered in depth.

Several allegations of Putin being involved in corruption going back to his days in St. Petersburg (no big surprise, given we're talking about Russia).

It was implied that Putin was picked as Yeltsin's successor because he would turn a blind eye to the former's corruption.

The most interesting part to me--due to my ignorance of the event--was the conspiracy questions razed about about the apartment bombings which were part of the grounds for the Second Chechen War. Some evidence suggests the FSB may have been behind them.

I'll hold off for further confirmation but Russian media quoting the terrorists in Donetsk say the Cyborgs (aka Ukrainian military) have withdrawn from the airport sadly.
