Ukraine Protests

So let me get this straight. According to the article, the photographer that took the pictures of the smoke plume didn't know what it was. And he evidently didn't hear the sound of a missile launch at close range to complete the puzzle. It's not like every news outlet reported that a plane had been shot down to help him figure it out. Several months later he puts the puzzle together and turns the photos in to authorities. I call bull.

Keep an eye on Moscow today, there could be some protests for rigged verdict in the Navalny case. Putin's regime must be scared because the verdict was supposed to be January 15th and the people were planning a massive demonstration but like a thief in the night Russian authorities moved it to today leaving protest leaders scrambling. Over a thousand people on FB have promised to still show up today.

BBC News - Russian opposition leader Navalny faces early verdict

This Navalny guy... I just found some very interesting quotes on Wiki that this guy has made. Are you sure you want to put your money on this horse? He actually said what I was accused of saying a few weeks ago (yet was given no proof of the quote showing where I said it).

132 people have been arrested so far along with Navalny being arrested for defying his house arrest order and attending the rally.

From Peter Hitchens article in 2012 (well before we ever heard of Svoboda and the neo-Nazis in Ukraine). It seems as though the Russians have a healthy (and justified) distrust of Western-influenced politicians.

Vladimir Putin: I can see the point of this sinister tyrant who so ruthlessly stands up for Russia | Daily Mail Online

Western liberals seldom mention Navalny’s other side, a caustic Russian nationalism that has led him into the sordid company of neo-Nazis.

Westerners tend to accept his claim that a creepy video, in which he used the word ‘cockroaches’ to refer to terrorists from the Caucasus, is a joke. Some joke. While actual cockroaches can be killed with a slipper, he says in the 2007 recording, ‘for humans I recommend a pistol’.

Alexei Navalny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Early in 2012 Navalny stated on Ukrainian TV that "Russian foreign policy should be maximally directed at integration with Ukraine and Belarus… In fact, we're one nation. We should enhance integration."[92] During the same broadcast Navalny said that he did not intend "to prove that the Ukrainian nation doesn't exist. God willing, it does." He added, "No one wants to make an attempt to limit Ukraine's sovereignty".[92][93] In October 2014 Navalny stated "I don't see any kind of difference at all between Russians and Ukrainians", he admitted that his views might provoke "horrible indignation" in Ukraine.[94]

In March 2014, Navalny declared that he doesn't support Russia's annexation of Crimea. According to The Moscow Times, "Navalny suggested that Kiev should grant Crimea greater autonomy while remaining part of Ukraine, guarantee the right to speak Russian in Ukraine, keep Ukraine out of NATO, and let the Russian Black Sea fleet remain in the peninsula free of charge."[95] In October 2014 Navalny stated in an interview by Ekho Moskvy that he would not return Crimea to Ukraine if he were to become the president of Russia but that "a normal referendum" should be held in Crimea to decide what country the peninsula belongs to.[94]

Russia's Sub Rosa Statecraft - The American Interest

Russia spies on the West because it fears democracy and the rule of law, and sees a chance to subvert them. For its part, the West does not make a big deal about Russian espionage because it has other worries. Most of all we do not want to admit the extent of the threat from Russia and of our own vulnerabilities, which it is so expertly exploiting. As with other troubled aspects of Western political culture in the early 21st century, it comes down to simple but elusive qualities: courage, honesty, and consistency. The West’s shortcomings in dealing with Russian espionage seem to reflect wider and deeper woes.

Eurasian Economic Union: Dead on Arrival? | The Diplomat

The reasons for the resounding disappointment surrounding the Eurasian Union’s unveiling are myriad, and have already been covered in stark detail within the Crossroads Asia vertical. The Eurasian Union was largely a non-starter as soon as Ukraine pulled out from the project, but its struggles have continued unabated. Belarus and Russia have yet to resolve their customs disputes – effectively nullifying the primary purpose of the customs union as a whole – and, in the days leading up to the EEU’s formalization, called Russia’s barring of certain Belarusian products “stupid and brainless.” Meanwhile, while customs struggles continue to separate Minsk and Moscow, it seems there will be no customs checkpoints between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh – despite the wishes of Kazakhstan, which had previously called out Yerevan for not securing its customs borders. That is to say, within the Eurasian Union, customs debacles continue between two of the founding members, but have been removed between one of the member states and an unrecognized statelet within a nation outside the EEU’s auspices. Not exactly the best way to build confidence in the organization’s efficacy.

I'm sure that, somehow, some way, it's 95% Victoria Nuland's fault. The other 5% the American public's.
