U.S. Navy Not Fit For War

Why The US Navy Is 'Losing To Rag Tag Middle Eastern Rebels'... And It's Hitting You In The Pocket

America delivered punishing airstrikes on Yemen this weekend, attacking positions held by Houthi forces - but a months-long US Navy campaign has failed to stop the rebels causing chaos in the Red Sea.

The strikes, which killed at least 53 people and injured hundreds according to the Houthi-run Health Ministry, came as Donald Trump vowed to use 'overwhelming lethal force' to stop the Houthis from disrupting global shipping in the Red Sea.

In a lengthy statement published to his Truth Social platform, Trump warned the Houthis 'HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!' if they continue to target Western commercial and military vessels with missiles and drones.

He also ordered Iran, the Houthis' main backer, to stop supporting the group immediately, declaring: 'America will hold you fully accountable and, we won't be nice about it!'

But the Houthis immediately struck back, launching missile and drone attacks at the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and forcing US Air Force and Navy jets to scramble to protect the vessel.

In November 2023, the Houthis - one of several groups backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran - began launching missile, drone and naval attacks on Western commercial vessels in the Red Sea in retaliation for Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

The attacks meant that many commercial shipping companies could no longer transit the Suez Canal - a vital maritime passageway splitting Africa and the Middle East that used to carry roughly 30 per cent of world container traffic.

Instead, ships heading to Western Europe from Asia have been forced to circumnavigate the entire African continent, adding up to two weeks to their time at sea.

Despite striking Houthi targets intermittently for more than a year now, the US has been unable to prevent the group from triggering a global shipping crisis as they continue to threaten Western ships.

The effect of the Houthi attacks has been profound - a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) last year found the price of shipping a container from Asia to Europe had gone up by as much as 300% for some businesses, while IMF shipping data showed the volume of shipping in the Suez Canal has been cut in half.

3 American soldiers dead after US armored vehicle pulled from Lithuanian swamp

Three American soldiers were declared deceased on Monday after crews in Lithuania retrieved the M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle they were traveling in, which sank in a swamp last week.

The announcement came as search and recovery efforts are ongoing for a fourth soldier near Pabradė, Lithuania, according to U.S. Army Europe and Africa.

“Three U.S. Army soldiers assigned to 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division were found deceased in Lithuania today, March 31. The soldiers, whose identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, went missing in the early morning hours of March 25 in their M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicle while conducting a mission to repair and tow an immobilized tactical vehicle,” U.S. Army Europe and Africa said in a statement.

New Navy chief 'regrets' costly missile strikes against Houthis, pushes for cheaper Red Sea defense

'I had not been thoughtful enough to think about the UAV threat where I think a much lesser-powered weapon would have done what we needed it to do,' says Adm James Kilby

New acting Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. James Kilby said he regrets the Navy’s reliance on expensive, high-powered missiles to counter the Houthi threat in the Red Sea and pledged to push for cheaper, more efficient solutions.

Speaking to reporters at the Sea Air Space conference in National Harbor, Maryland, Kilby said he was "not concerned" about the Navy’s ability to protect its people – such as the 350 sailors aboard the USS Carney missile destroyer – or its ability to safeguard commercial shipping.

He is concerned, however, about "not having better ways to more economically attrit the threat."

This reminds me of a recent YouTube vid I watched where a former fighter pilot was criticizing developers and higher ups of not wanting to add guns to new modern fighter planes.

yeah, going back to the balloon issue. shoot a missile that costs several million dollars at something that probably only cost a few thousand.

drones will be much more expensive to combat.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, the only woman on NATO’s military committee, was fired over the weekend by the Trump administration, U.S. officials said Monday.

Although no reason was given, officials said it was apparently tied to comments she has made that supported diversity in the force.

Looking at her wiki page how does someone like her go from flying helicopters to the commands she got and rise to the rank of Vice Admiral apparently never serving as an officer on any ship?

Just how many of these officers infect our military command? At least there is one less today.

WTF was this snapper head thinking sending out an email with this statement? Whatever she was thinking it wasn't about her oath.

"I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base," Meyers wrote in the email, which was communicated to Military.com.

The drip is endless

I remember in '93 when notices were put out and "extra training" was conducted to let us all know that criticism of our Commander in Chief would lead to UCMJ action. Our company commander gave us specific language that could not be used and terms that could, he had the whole company rolling laughing. He was relived shortly after.
