Troy Calhoun (merged)

Obviously you don't know much about OE. He loves to over-react.

I'm not saying that Calhoun is going to be Tennessee's Meyer or Saban... I think if he comes here we'll have 7 or 8 wins a year and go .500 in the SEC.

are you content with that??

I hate to cut and paste but this is Calhoun's bio from tos. Not bad!

"Calhoun came to the Academy after serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans in 2006. The Texans were one of only two NFL teams to triple their number of wins from the previous year. They also were the last team to defeat the Indianapolis Colts on their way to the Super Bowl championship. On offense, the Texans had the NFL's leading receiver (Pro Bowler Andre Johnson with 103 catches), the NFL's best quarterback completion percentage (68.4 percent) and their quarterback tied an NFL record against Buffalo with 22 straight completions. Calhoun became a well-rounded NFL coach, working as a defensive assistant, special teams assistant and offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos from 2003-05. He began his NFL coaching career by serving as the defensive assistant under defensive coordinator Larry Coyer in 2003. He was a part of the NFL's fourth-ranked defense. The Broncos' defense ranked seventh against the run and sixth against the pass. Denver's defense yielded a mere 17.6 points per game as they made the playoffs for the first time since 2000. In 2004, Denver utilized Calhoun's offensive prowess by moving him to offensive assistant/special teams. The offense ranked fifth in the NFL, averaging 395.8 yards per game.

Calhoun worked closely with Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan in the 2005 season, serving as the assistant to the head coach. He helped the Broncos win the AFC West title for the 10th time in their history. Denver reached the AFC Championship game for the first time in seven seasons. Their 14-4 record was the best since Denver finished the 1998 season with a 17-2 mark on their way to winning Super Bowl XXXIII. The offense finished fifth in the NFL averaging 360.4 yards per game. The defense was stout against the run, finishing second in the NFL with 85.2 yards per game. Denver finished with an undefeated record at home during the regular season for the fifth time in team history. During Calhoun's three years in Denver, the Broncos made the playoffs every season, averaging over 11 wins per year. Prior to the NFL, Calhoun was an offensive coordinator for six seasons on the collegiate level. He began his coaching career at Air Force, where he worked as a graduate assistant from 1989-90. He started at quarterback for the Academy in 1986 and was one of only two freshmen to letter for the 1985 team that finished fifth in the final polls with a 12-1 record that included wins over national powers Notre Dame and Texas."

i think they should fire hamilton if this is the best he can find. I still think boise's peterson would be one of the better options. I just can't see cutcliffe coming back and he didn't do so hot at Ole miss.

All the negativity is due to some recruits who want another Hollywood hire posting that they would decommit if Calhoun were hired. I'm not saying that he would be a good hire, but there is a distinct lack of facts and actual reasoning behind most people's knee jerk reactions on here.

Why is everyone convinced that Calhoun would run an option here?

I have the same question. Calhoun was Off. Coordinator for the Houston Texans and I can assure you they did not run the option. He was also the Off. Coordinator at Ohio and Wake Forest. Not sure what they ran there, but Calhoun has a lot of experience and is a good coach. I'm not totally sold on him at Tennessee for whatever reason, but we could definitely do a lot worse.

First off, to all the doofs that think he will bring Flexbone offense here should go ahead and forget that. He didn't run the Flexbone anywhere else in his career, especially in the NFL.

Since right now ESPN stats only go to 2002, and they seem to be messed I will only post his stats from OC at Houston Texans:

Passing: 329-481 14 TD 13 INT
Rushing: 431 car. 1687 13 TD

Keep in mind that David Carr was the QB here and he's not that great. Pretty decent stats for someone with a little over a decade of coaching experience. He wouldn't be a bad hire, but he's better than Cutcliffe.

Just wanted to inform the ill informed.

I'll admit I was not too high on him at first, but after researching, I found he may be a decent hire! Not a "SEXY" hire, but will instill a great work ethic. I would rather have him then Cut!

Peterson has a child with extreme special needs. He is not leaving the place where his family is so comfortable.

Hamilton's #1 attribute of his candidates the past two coaching searches has been a guy who can recruit nationally and do it well. He failed. Guy hasn't proven anything in recruiting and we're going to lose 3/4ths of our class now as well as several players already on the team.

Coaching career
Calhoun is a 1989 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. After graduation, he served on the Air Force coaching staff under Fisher DeBerry as a Graduate Assistant for the 1989-90 seasons. He served as the Falcon’s recruiting coordinator and the junior varsity offensive coordinator in 1993-94.

In 1995, he moved to Ohio University where he served as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons, and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 1997. During his first season at Ohio, his offense had measurable success, particularly in games against Eastern Michigan where the school totaled 612 yards, second most in school history, as well as a win against Maryland, which was Ohio's first victory over a school from the ACC. The following week, Ohio fell three points short of defeating Kansas State.

In his final year at Ohio, the offense set a school record with 418.1 yards per game and rushed for a school best 3,553. The Bobcats also ended the season with wins over two bowl teams, Minnesota and Marshall.

Calhoun became offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of Wake Forest University in 2001. During Calhoun's second season, the Demon Deacons led the ACC in total offense with 408.1 yards per game, with a league best 990 plays and only 16 turnovers.

Calhoun began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos as a defensive assistant in 2003, and later moved to offense and special teams. When Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak was hired as the Texans' head coach, Kubiak brought Calhoun along and made Calhoun his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Calhoun finished out the 2006 season with the Texans before taking over at Air Force.

He feels like he can make the National Championship next year and isn't going to leave now

Someone changed his Wikipedia entry:

Troy Calhoun is the head football coach for the United States Air Force Academy, replacing Air Force legend Fisher DeBerry. He was previously the offensive coordinator for the NFL's Houston Texans and a Quarterback for Air Force and is a better man than Low Life No Class Bastard, Lane "Judas" Kiffin, whose true colors were not Big Orange, but Coward Yellow!

Lol! :eek:lol::eek:lol:

Multiple sources are reporting that Troy Calhoun will be named UT's next coach. Jim Wogan and Volquest are 2 of them.

"Multiple internet and twitter reports have confirmed Tennessee has hired Air Force coach Troy Calhoun"
-per Josh Ward and Will West. Ward also said he received a text confirming the hiring.

His one year at Houston is nothing to brag about. But, with that said, I think he would have been successful with the acquisition of Matt Schaub. The situation with Carr there was horrible and has to be understood when viewing his stats.

Overall, Houston finished 28/32 in the NFL in points and total yards in 2006 and jumped to 12/14 in 2007 with the acquisition of Schaub.

Calhoun was there in 2006 only.
