Troy Calhoun (merged)

Supposedly Calhoun is staying, but the general thought is that he is trying to get ahead of the press conference because Hammy has his guy.

First of all hello I'm new as you can see.....Second Calhoun would be a pretty dang good choice. He has good experience and a good resume. He only runs the option because that is what works best for Air Force. He would not bring that to TN.

how do you know this? I dont know much about him but the option would make me sick so can he coach a pro style offense or let other coaches run it?

Hate to admit this guys because I love my vols but I don't think alot of our kids are even smart enough to run a detailed triple option.

Here's hoping Calhoun keeps up the tradition at AFA.

Fisher DeBerry to the Univ. of South Carolina: "Wow, that's a lot of money. But 'No'. I'm the coach at the Air Force Academy. I have a mission here." :salute:

Calhoun would NOT try to install the option as the base O at UT. He has more than enough experience in the NFL to run a pro style O.

im not for the hire but thinking the guy would run the option here is ignorant.

why? Air Force doesn't score a bunch of points? Florida doesn't wear out defenses with a dumpy little dive play and then steam roll in the 2nd half of a game? The 95 and 96 Nebraska teams weren't competitive?

I've never understood the logic behind some of these statements.

This talk of the Triple Option being a gimmick is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I guess Mizzou didnt have time to prepare for Navy this year. Give me a break. I don't give a crap what offense you run, if you don't nail your assignments and have proper match ups then you're going to lose. Air Force annihilated Houston. Embarrased them. Navy crushed Missouri. Ga Tech won the ACC. Stop with the Gimmicky offense BS. If all it takes is time to prepare for an offense, then every offense is a gimmick. By the way, I doubt if Calhoun comes he'd run it. He might run some form of option close to the goal line....no more of a gimmick than the Wildcat(pretty much a single wing which is supposed to be out dated).

Right on bro...fellow Navy fan here too. Had family that played there under PJ.

First of all, i don't know jack about the guy other than what I've read recently. I do know that he has had success at Air Force. Is all the negativity about this possibility related to the triple option? Heck, I don't care if he runs the split-veer as long as it works.

Personally, I would not like to see Muschamp. I'm just not into that whole chest bumping, "boom m-fer" , type braggadocio.

Good thing for you that none of the rumored coaches would run it at UT.

Obviously you don't know much about OE. He loves to over-react.

I'm not saying that Calhoun is going to be Tennessee's Meyer or Saban... I think if he comes here we'll have 7 or 8 wins a year and go .500 in the SEC.

95-01: Ohio University OC/QB coach
01-02: Wake Forest OC/QB coach
03-05: Denver Broncos Assistant
06: Houston Texas OC
07-present: Air Force HC

First off, to all the doofs that think he will bring Flexbone offense here should go ahead and forget that. He didn't run the Flexbone anywhere else in his career, especially in the NFL.

Since right now ESPN stats only go to 2002, and they seem to be messed I will only post his stats from OC at Houston Texans:

Passing: 329-481 14 TD 13 INT
Rushing: 431 car. 1687 13 TD

Keep in mind that David Carr was the QB here and he's not that great. Pretty decent stats for someone with a little over a decade of coaching experience. He wouldn't be a bad hire, but he's better than Cutcliffe.

Just wanted to inform the ill informed.

Over react?

Please!
