'26 Transfer QB options

After reading SF's message, and it occurred to me. We've been through this before, right? (I'm talking aloud here).

My question about passiveness in porthole, and why we arent paying the Adidas money early, was answered with logic. Dudes entering the 'hole early have known their suitors for a minute, and are desiring money. Their suitors are overpaying.

Tennessee knows what it needs, and is using analytics, conversations, and leg work to get er done. I admire that.

Also, back to we've been here before. Tennessee has a history of keeping things close to the vest, as is logical. Why let your competitor know your intent? This will drive up the price.

Additionally, more players are entering the 'hole' daily. The LB from PSU. Id say the big board we were given was the pacifier to shut us up. But the real board is a large, fluid one.

The dudes in the hole now are just seeking money. Likely very few future pros, those dudes are already locked down in deals. As far as QB, why would we pay $3M US when we even have a snowballs chance at getting Joey? Dude is everything we need, he pissed excellence at every facet of intangibles, from leadership attitude, want too. We all know second year in this system....

Ive got a feeling, always have we get Joey back. We were good enough on O to be in the Playoffs.

We needed a RB. Galvanize the line.

Get a championship defense.
Good post, Jackcrevol.
I, too, have had the same gut feeling that we will have Joey back for '26.

Don't believe I posted Simpson was going to portal. I said there's no guarantees that Simpson would come here since he is considered a 1st round draft pick.
I think you missed something.

The post said this site will go bananas IF he hits the portal. Then you asked why because he might go pro. The reply to that was, if he hits the portal, that means he’s not going pro.

No one said that you said he’d hit the portal.

Either he goes pro or he hits the portal. Not both. If it’s the latter, the feeling is that it’s Tennessee.

Agent talk, right before he declares for the draft. In no world does a SR qb on a playoff team not go back, when he has draft aspirations.

It's Joey or its a G5/P4 dude we havent heard from yet.
Probably waiting to see who will be drafting where and if any desperate college staff calls him up with a $10M check ready to sign

If he doesnt declare for the draft, why do people feel confident he'll transfer here? Wouldn't it make sense for him to stay at Bama?

This is what Im thinking as well. Honestly I say we get Joey another year. Hes gonna be better in year 2. Theres not a QB in the portal currently that is worth spending the money on. We wont have to break the bank on Joey and can spend more on defense.

I sincerely question this.
agreed.

In what world does a high school senior dictate what happens with a college senior that took his team into Athens for a win and to the sec championship and playoffs? Kid cant even go pro until junior year. Just doesn’t make sense.

Russell isn’t a HS Sr but point remains

Simpson>Leavitt
He had his chance to be a Vol and spit in our face.

Eff em.

And Leavitt is better. Especially for this offense. Took freakin ASU to the playoffs.

Simpson is ok for a dropback offense with a bunch of stud TEs, OL around him. Leavitt has wheels and creates on the fly. Does more with less. Similar to OM QB.

I think this may be where we are. We kicked the tires with guys like Sorsby and Leavitt, but their price tags are too high. So we're going to see what happens with Simpson and Aguilar and if neither of those guys are options, just bring in a guy to compete, but who doesn't break the bank, because we're fixing this defense.
I’m really ok with that because I’m a little higher on Mac than the rest of VN.

Making this statement when rumors are starting to circulate about him potentially hitting the portal is a good PR move. They know it's realistic he could hit the portal and now that the word is getting out, this is a way to semi-confirm it and hopefully have some of the negative reactions fizzled out by the time it actually happens. They're setting the table if he doesn't get a first round grade and wants another year of college ball.

For our sake, this just confirms that the rumors are spot on. He can't start at Alabama next year because they want to keep their Freshman QB that they think is elite, so it's the draft or transferring.

I think if Heupel wants win now he better get a DT QB. Don’t care how much money you spend on defense you need a good qb to run offense, otherwise just a waste of time and money.
