Total War: Warhammer

hopefully by giving us a new region and cultures with which to fight.

The only problem I see is that there aren't too many new regions or cultures left in my opinion that are truly that interesting to me.

I am still waiting for a medieval 3. My favorite time period by far for some reason. The events in that game like the crusades, mongol invasion, and bubonic plague made that such an interesting time period for me.

Even when I want to go back to Attila, I get bored and wish I had a giant to squish people with.

ha

if you play as Dark Elves you really want Hag Graef and the special mine they have. it is very nice.

so I think the Cold Blooded Logic means if you get one lizard faction to like/hate you, they all like or hate you.

I buttered up one of their factions for trade, the turn after I got it, I had a bunch of others suddenly like me and offer trade despite no interaction and a past war with two of them.

I like using influence to soften enemies up before I begin wars. or getting my defensive allies to join my attacks. almost endless possibilities.

So what's the conclusion on the game so far?

Better than warhammer 1?
Much better than warhammer 1?

Good to know on cold blooded logic, hadn't figured that out yet

going back to the factions imo it really does feel sculpted. In pretty much any playthrough even with other horde factions, orks and vamps, I felt secure once I had my one power army going. As the skaven that is not the case. I feel like I need multiple of them.

Lizards and high elves seem to reward a more defensive play style (campaign not battle), while the DE I feel like I need to constantly raid and grow, same with skaven. As the good guys I don't mind sparing an enemy to hopefully get trade, but as skaven and DE I want to take advantage of the weaklings to grow my empire which is more important than trade.

lizard tech tree is just a block of stuff reflecting their straight forward logic. DE and HE have multiple tiers and upgrades. While the skaven tech tree is a warren of interconnected unlocking pieces.

holding Ultuan is proving to be decently taxing. I own the whole island and am making tons of money but it seems the whole world wants to invade. the straights of Lothern being open to all is a little lore and game breaking. its a port that doesn't have an area of influence on the water. I have about 3 armies running around squashing either invasions from the DE, skaven, or undead; or fighting the rogue armies.

so running into some issues or things I don't like.

The skaven can ambush you even if you are encamped. makes no sense because the ambush always starts with you marching. where were you marching if encamped?

their ambushes can now bring in their reinforcements but won't trigger yours.

something seems off on the economy too. I regularly have my income vary by a thousand a turn and it usually goes in waves. start at 12k and work down to 2k, even though nothing has changed. no new armies, haven't lost any provinces, no trade agreement cancelled. but it will eventually set back up after a couple turns. not an issue for me in this game, but it could matter a whole heck of a lot.

skaven armies being able to ambush twice in the same turn, even after losing the first.

what I call confederation to survive is definitely a big aspect in this game. I have been wiping the floor with Nagarond. and as I have defeated their armies and knocked down their power levels they will confederate to become strong again. despite me using influence to make sure they hate each other and the targets like me too, again due to influence. seen the skaven and lizards do it too.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this or read it anywhere, but The Menace Below spawns units that don't have hitboxes which translates into eating lords/heroes for breakfast.

Mortal Empires might be dropping before the end of October. Grace says the 26th is a "probable" date.

ooh, that would be awesome.

Honestly thinking about it and seeing how 2 has unfolded with the "islands" I really don't see there being much interaction between 1 & 2. Good guys are still going to get rolled by chaos before they can get going. Wood Elves are still going to blanket half the map in green.

mods are active, haven't tried any of them out. honestly don't feel like the game needs them too much.

You're the loremaster so stop me if I'm wrong (RE: Skaven)

Aren't they as ambush-y as an ambush army gets? I actually have issues with them fielding so many open field battles.

Also, in a classical sense, an ambush isn't always something an army walks into. Typically, and ambush in an unexpected, full-scale attack. If an army is encamped, and they are unknowingly surrounded by a clandestine army, why can't that be an ambush?

From what I've read, skaven need to be seriously tweaked.

No they are, a total war game is never going to do them justice. I don't have a problem with you being ambushed in an encampment, just don't like that you are caught marching. used to be a micro siege if you attacked an encamped army, I figured they could work something out with that. Towers were dumb in those, but at least give some walls we can fight around.

Skaven lack the most, and I think its because they are going to be tweaked the most for Mortal Empires, the combined campaign. they lack a lot, especially the landmark buildings, which can make quiet a difference.

They fight plenty of open field battles, it just wouldn't be their first, second or third choice. But especially with the dwarves and goblins, their big fights are open field affairs, just deep underground. Early game I think they reflect their style pretty good, only attacking if they have overwhelming numbers (5k vs less than 1k) but late game that isn't as possible so you get ambush battles all over the place, many of which don't make sense imo.

Fired up a Kroq-Gar campaign on Very Hard. only issue I am having right now is money. Did download a couple mods, mostly graphical, but found one that gets rid of the army loss modifier, takes much longer for an army to mass route now. Means I can finally kill enough rats for the fight to be worth it. killing about 3k of 5k instead of 1k of 5k.

Started a Teclis campaign last night. 60 turns in, really enjoying the starting location. Got the high elves directly to the East as a military alliance and will confederate soon. Moving up the eastern portion of the island first and then will confederate and push both army heads together and take the island.

That’s the initial plan at least
