Total War: Warhammer

Do either of you incorporate mods? @LouderVol
I haven't with 3's immortal empire.

I honestly haven't bought all the DLC, and really don't play enough to run thru all the content that already exists, so I haven't really felt the need to try mods. there probably are some QoL mods/patch mods I should try.

In 1 & 2 I used a good number of mods.

tigermen coming to WTW3 sometime this summer. sounds like they will be monstrous infantry for Cathay.

they have been one of the most talked about subfactions in the lore, starting with the tabletop, for a long time.

I was really hoping they were just going to be part of an Ind (india/SE asia equivalent) Order aligned beastmen faction. or even if they were just some Rogue armies that would pop up for flavor would have been a nice touch. In the little bit of Cathay lore that is out there Tigermen are still pretty rare, but there are even more beastmen out there.

Tigermen have been listed alongside monkeymen (chaotic neutral alignment) as the two most common. Elephantmen (order), wolfmen (order), foxmen (chaotic neutral) and some other beastmen found mostly in Ind. Gators and Mermen have also been even more whispered.

Typically in Warhammer fantasy lore-logic the more predator/top of the food chain an animal is the more order aligned their beastmen versions are. the actual beastmen are pretty much always shown as goats/cows/pigs which is generally explained as being more chaos aligned. even though in lore you do get some bear/wolf/eagle ones. Elephants seem to be the major exception but I think that is due to the crossover logic of Elephants being seen as positive creatures in various cultures around SE asia. Dragon ogres are the exception in the other direction, but they existed before chaos and were previously sentient so they aren't the "typical" beastmen story, of a non-sentient becoming sentient.

fwiw it has been an extreme rumor that the last of the old ones was in Ind, and/or that there are Slann there leading a lizardmen-adjacent culture.

I just want a Nippon faction. The mod's pretty good but I think, as a whole, leaving out a Naval dimension in this series was a huge miss. I loved the naval battles they did in Empire. Give me ninja pirates!

Lokhir Felheart's campaign is so much fun. I want to see that concept expanded.

even if there weren't playable battles, there needed to be recruitable ships.

got the DLC and it comes across pretty flat. their faction mechanics don't add enough replay ability to be worth it. most of the new units are pretty mid, especially for the cost.

change of subject, but I entered to be part of the closed beta for warhammer 40k total war. doubt I get in, but worth the attempt.

The tiger warriors mods in the workshop is better than the DLC

yeah. they are just out of content and trying to stretch things. pretty disappointing. Its why I haven't been buying most of the DLC.
I bought all the DLC bc I love the game so much, but I totally get it. My biggest complaint is so many lords have no unique faction mechanics. Like I’m a skaven fanatic yes yes and queek who is big time in the warhammer lore has no unique mechanics, neither does Trech or Lord Skrolk. So half the lord roster for the skaven are vanilla.

Its the issue of power creep and trying to release content over years.

the older the faction/character the less they have. I definitely don't want every LL to have unique mechanics. I just gets tiring at some point. One solution I have thought of is that when you confederate the lords you should gain access to any unique mechanics/systems that lord has. it doesn't make sense to me that those things just disappear.

also they need to introduce some way to "recruit" LLs from dead factions. AFAIK the dwarfs are the only one who can. Obviously everyone can't get a book of grudges to necro their guys. but make them quest battles, or some faction/character specific quest to recruit them. Or put some general requirement like "you must own Faction capital and X other territories" to necro dead LLs.

and generally speaking they don't do enough to make the weird characters unique.

Who do you prefer to play as? Who do you dislike fighting?

favorite two are lizards and dwarfs. chaos and vamps after them. then probably High Elves, but I get an ork and gobbo itch sometimes that just won't go away.

I generally prefer playing as Order aligned as its more of a challenge. its just not very intriguing to me to have an army by turn 10 that I don't need to mess with for the rest of the game. I still like the old Total War empire building aspect that the chaos aligned factions don't really need to go through.

Most chaos aligned games by turn 50 its game over, all a formality. as order I will be pushed until at least 150.

I don't like playing against characters that are impossible to kill, and will sit there and solo my army with 500+ kills before I break. if you could lock characters into combat more easily I would feel drastically different. I just hate how the AI can just have their characters and large models walk thru combat while hardly taking any damage.

Hahaha so funny you play my factions rivals ironically. Lord skrolks campaign is one of my favorites bc it’s lizardmen mostly I go against. I like to spread the plagues yes yes

Skaven can be fun. One of my issues is I always try to play them lore accurate ( I do with most) to some extent. and some of the builds will run into brick walls against certain enemies.

If I have a warlord general its probably clanrats/stormvermin heavy with 2 of each of the four clans.
Moulder I will bring a core of clanrats/stormvermin a bunch of rat ogres and abominations. usually don't mess with a pack master, mixed reviews imo.
Eshin is the hardest, small core, then a mix of the various sneaky bois. assasin heros are useless on the battlefield imo, until they are leveled way up.
Pestlins I won't bring a core of clanrats/stormvermin. all plague monks, usually one plague priest, 4 or more plague catapults, and probably some censor bearers.
Skyre is the easiest. just about any combo of their weapon teams and weapons will win pretty easily. I try to take as many characters as I can, spamming the warp lighting spell will tear up an enemy quickly.

I think what draws me the most to Lizards and Dwarfs is there lore of "get off my lawn" attitude, and their two very different ways of getting you off their lawn. also reflected in the fact that those are my two largest armies on the tabletop.

I learned with the skaven you have to fight dirty. I ambush all the time, also with ikit claw I forge military alliances and have my alliance army help me in a battle, drop a nuke on them during the battle along with our common enemy, then declare war on them after the battle and take all their stuff. If I don’t betray them first they’ll betray me yes yes!

I sorta do that when I want to confederate a faction. join a battle as the reinforcements, or even main. but let them do all the fighting. losing that army drops their strength and makes them more likely to confederate.

its here...

the power creep is obnoxious. looks at what the 3 evil factions get, and then look at what the 1 order faction gets. pay no attention that its already 3 to 1, just look at the roster adds.

all three evil factions are getting units that were banned from competitive play because they were too powerful. the order faction is essentially getting units it already has, just in a different skin.

the freeLC is updating all existing LL, which is nice, but in no way shape or form is it going to come close to the power creep.

also if you want a spot on accurate description of the lore for the End Times go watch the South Park episode where the teacher explains evolution before converting to worshipping the spaghetti monster.
