Thanks for being an intellectual wimp.

I'm an intellectual wimp? How so? The guy asked a question....I threw out a guess. Made sense to me. He replied with a question of why cant a guy drive down the road drinking a beer. I thought that was pretty self explanatory and added that had he ever lost a loved one to a drunk driver like I have he would easily know the answer to that question.

Then inserts you being a total douchebag. You make light of a bad situation that had nothing to do with your point. But I'm the intellectual wimp here?

Question cd.....why can't you crack open a cold one tomorrow at work before you go on shift?

First off I think the better analogy would be cracking one while on shift.

And I can't do that because (though I don't have it memorized) it probably against my facility's drugs/alcohol policy. I'd certainly get fired but I don't think I would get in any legal trouble. It would also be embarrassing.

And why do you think they have this policy?

Assume I'm not and explain the difference.

Hmmm....why is it bad to put a substance in the hand of someone driving down the road in a couple thousand pound vehicle that can alter ones ability to operate said vehicle safely? Do I really need to waste my time?

Again, why dont you have a cold one while you are taking care of your patients?

Harm a patient and let them find evidence that you had been drinking and tell me how the legal trouble thing works out.

So should driving down the road with a bottle of Xanax in your hand be illegal too?

I've already answered that. I'd get fired.

Actually a better analogy would be should driving down the road while taking Xanax be illegal.

Have a wreck with Xanax in your system and let me know how that works out.

I can't tell if you're grasping or just really this dumb. The initial question was regarding the legality of having an open container of alcohol.

Go back and read. You were too busy being an ass to comprehend the question that 8188 asked. In his reply to my "guess" he asks why cant a driver or passenger drink a beer while driving down the road. I said have a best friend die in a dui accident and you will have your answer. So again learn to read before you act like an ass and try to say I am the dumb one.

I will answer the damn question that you keep avoiding. You dont drink at your job because your organization is smart enough to know you could be impaired and harm a patient. Same as doing it while driving a car.

I'm still waiting for a reasonable explanation as to why open container laws exist?

That's his initial question. So unless an open beer bottle flew out of the car and killed your friend, I'm pretty sure the criminal act that lead to their death was driving under the influence. Which happens to be a law no one questioned the legitimacy of.

In the scenario you laid out, I imagine there would also be some kind of field sobriety test, followed by some kind of blood alcohol or breathalyzer.

So why is the can relevant? Also why shouldn't the driver or passenger be allowed to have a beer?

Read!!!!! This ws the question I was answering!

Again dont jump in with your douchebag statements if you arent willing to read.
