Ras, you're reading way too much into this. When the cops leave, move the barricades. He chose to run over the curb. No harm, no foul.

First off, never answered my question as to why it was there. Secondly, I never saw you ask me that. Thirdly, what difference does it make why they did it? It was still a silly decision to make, given the circumstances.

The entire incident didn't even need to happen to begin with. And again, this is yet another illustration of police not deescalating a situation, but instead, feeding into it and allowing to go on for way long than needed.

When the cops saw these guys coming up, he should have just let them leave, no need for a confrontation or engaging in something that could have gotten out of hand.

Go back and watch the video. The cop clearly says "you guys are adults, whatever you do is up to you. We're leaving here shortly."

That's pretty clear to me.

Though I'm sure you'll have some sort of crazy reason like checking for back child support or taillights being out or loose cigarettes in the trunk. Probably something along those lines.

There is no reason for it to be there, in my opinion. Nor was there any reason for this cop to even entertain and engage these people the moment they returned to get their car.

Just let them go and save 4 mins of social media buffonery that cops across the country don't need right now.

That was not said in the initial moments of the engagement. It could have easily been defused in 5 seconds. Instead, we get what we have on video.

He wasted 4 mins of his time and theirs.

Hell, Grand, in typical fashion, you defend the cops for engaging in a sidewalk encounter instead of immediately defusing the situation with a little bit of common sense.

Cops have no idea how to deescalate a situation, so I realize I may be asking for way too much.

In Fort Lauderdale, they were using common sense. But apparently among Florida folks, it ain't so common.

He was hyped up and panicked with his mom or whoever there trying to evacuate and some cop in front of him is not being clear and direct, but instead speaking in riddles. In that situation, it is difficult to put blame on the civilian.

Grand asked you to put yourself in the civilians shoes, now I ask you to put yourself in that cops position. If you see people are trying to evacuate and get their car out of a garage, would you have even carried on with a back and forth convo? Would you have even put up the barricade in the first place?

I'm going on record and backing Ras in this situation. There was no damn reason to be a jerk and not just say, yeah sure go get your car and if we're not hear when you come to the exit move the barricades yourself. Cops are like Marines, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed, but they'll protect each other and charge the hill when told.

Ras, it's an implied thing. The cops can't move the barricades for you, they also cannot tell you that you can move them. It's a liability thing. That's why he told them they were adults and they were leaving shortly. I understand the guy was panicking, I have friends that panic around the cops. The cop could've been somewhat clearer. It all turned out well in the end though.

And funny thing, the ones who were overreacting in that incident were the two that approached the cops. He was being very polite and professional, giving them advice as best he could without saying directly what they should do. He kept his calm and kept asking "do you understand what I'm saying?" while they were getting irate.

I would like to see what TYT or Tommy Sotomayor would say about this.

Good grief, he was professional to the max. He wasn't arrogant or overbearing, but those two weren't making it any easier on him. He told them, practically point blank, how to get their car out. Did he poke a little fun at them for the whole Category 4 Hurricane thing? Yeah, but considering it's been a Cat 4 or greater since it hit the Caribbean and has been tracking towards Florida for almost five days. It's a pretty lame excuse.

Look, if you want to back stupidity, by all means, back stupidity. But when we get to the brass tacks level here, 99.9% of the population understood what he was implying without saying it directly. 99.9% of the population that would have been involved in that interaction would have said "thank you" and waited for them to leave. 99.9% of the population would have moved the damn barriers after they departed.

And 99.9% of people are smart enough not to argue for the ignorance of the two talking to that cop. And make no mistake, those two were idiots. But you keep defending them if you want.

It's interesting that you point that out. I watched that video and perhaps I wasn't paying close enough attention to what was being said, I didn't see the people wanting their car back to be idiots at all. All they wanted was their car out of the garage.
I observed a cop being an arrogant jerk. Maybe you should open your eyes as to how people view situations?

I don't think he was being a jerk. I think he was telling them to wait until they left then get their car. He was probably told that once the baracades went up no one was to enter or exit. He understood their plight and was trying to give them a way out. They were so angry they were not listening to what he was saying. That was just my observation.

Could he have point blank told them to move the baracades and get their car? Sure. But if he did and something happened he could have gotten in trouble. The way he did it he protected himself from disobeying an order. Jmo
