I understand they do keep bad officers in place but the reason they oppose community oversight is perfectly illustrated by the cities where police are currently being hamstrung. Politicizing police oversight is a bad idea and those community oversight boards are nothing but political and are easily weaponized. There are more effective ways of reaching the desired result.Police unions keep bad officers on the force. there is no need for the police union.
Why do you suppose the police unions are consistently opposed to outside oversight for officers?

Fox in the chicken coop. Pretty brazen. This one could easily go in the WTF thread.

Maybe police should leave cities like those. Let them fall apart. Keeping the criminal cops from losing their jobs is criminal. The bad police have to be kept from ever being re-hired in law enforcement. Once that starts happening, I think youโd see way more support from civilians.I understand they do keep bad officers in place but the reason they oppose community oversight is perfectly illustrated by the cities where police are currently being hamstrung. I'd like to think that would be true but from what I've seen recently we're beyond that event horizon.Maybe police should leave cities like those. Let them fall apart. I'm not sure about that, there was still some civility from the vast majority. And while not everyone is on the fringes the fringes are vastly more pronounced now as opposed to then with few voices with any semblance of power speaking out for calm and reconciliation.Youโre old enough to remember the late 60s early 70s. This too will pass.
