Most of the laughs seems to come from the actions of the fans. Sure, Butch's quotable moments and now Gaulden's fingers have given them fuel to the fire, but players and coaches come and go. The mob mentality of the fan base is the bread and butter of Tennessee jokes.
Yep, it is always the fans' fault. LOL
The UT administration and big boosters are the joke of college athletics. They are accomplishing what an NCAA death penalty would accomplish.
I don't like the guy but maybe Currie is strategically waiting it out. Maybe he knows that with the next game being an away game he doesn't have to deal with the embarrassment of a possible sparse stadium. Lose to UK and there will definitely be a small crowd at home against Southern Miss unless you fire the coach. But maybe I'm giving Currie too much credit.
Clueless. Regardless of what the "right thing to do" as far as hiring a new coach is, Butch brings absolutely nothing but apathy to the table at this point and he's hurting the program. Anybody that can't see that just doesn't want to see it or doesn't have the ability to comprehend it.
Man, I want him gone too, but there financial ramifications that are in play, its not just about wins and losses, Curries isn't sitting around watching the play calling and thinking man we gotta fire this guy.... lol there are so many other factors that go into firing a guy making 4 million a year. Geez. Get a grip.
Please give me an answer...Why in the world is Butch Jones still on campus. Butch should be gone! John Currie can go right along with Butch as well.
:hi: Bingo.Does anyone on here have experience working in or around a major D1 program? I know we have some former players (VFL!) but I find it comical that armchair QBs DEMAND their opinions be taken as truth before the situation has even resolved.
There are more factors than any of us know at play. We can guess to the facts but unless someone has a inside source we are making assumptions and look foolish dealing in absolutes.
What we know is that team 121 is performing well below expectations and, at this point, CBJ is likely done.
What we don't know is who the AD is talking to (more likely whose agents they are talking to) and what their interest level is. No current coach having a successful season wants the distraction of rumors to impact their season or demoralize their teams. If their teams tank on speculation it deleverages them in their negotiation and, most importantly, is unfair to their team and school.
If we have reached out to anyone high on our list and they said "no thanks" it would be unwise to make changes if you don't believe the alternative would create a better outcome.
Scheme isn't changing this deep into the year. Players are not changing. Play calling is typically as good as your ability to execute and we have a two start QB who takes a VERY long time to read his progressions (this will improve with experience). It is what it is so why make it worse?
The kids still appear to be playing hard and the softest part of the schedule is here. We can beat any of the teams left (save maybe LSU) and it is best to have minimal disruption unless there is someone who can step in and make instant improvements. Who is that? Probably no one unfortunately.
Be a grown up and give the guy a chance to work the problem. If he screws it up then fire away or put your name in for the AD job. If you are the right person to lead us back to the glory days I'll give you my vote!
Right on! You're making far more sense than those to whom you're addressing. Please indulge my adding to that. More so than any other position at any big-time-sports institution, ADs are under the constant pressure of that school's major benefactors who, naturally, push hard for that almighty bottom line. The handful of successful ADs are the ones who're holding all the face cards. Those money barons have been taught to leave the athletic dept. decisions to the smartest guy in the room...their AD. Living in SC for the past fifteen years, I've witnessed USCjr.'s rise from sports mediocrity to that of a program of over-achievers, and all this was due to the hiring of the current AD, Ray Tanner and, before that, his two predecessor. These men acted more like real fans than like banking CEOs. If Currie, indeed, pulls another gamble hire, then it's obvious that UT's athletic department's problems run deeper than those pinned on Currie alone. We've got to examine those who hired him, as well as just that one fella. If the administration won't allow Currie to dole out the moolah for a home run HC, then the only solution is for us fans to stay out of Neyland for a few games. UT's money comes from us. What they spend is based upon what we give 'em. Constantly dissing UT sports via internet posts (which our opponents just love) only hurts us Vol fans and athletes. Holding back on spending our hard earned pesos on game day, however, shocks those bottom-liners into capitulating. I know I don't feel like checkerboarding Neyland. Do any of you? Great (not just good) coach or an empty Neyland, gentlemen. Tell me that wouldn't work. I had one of my annual UT road trips booked, but now my UT/UK tickets are headed to the trash can; hotel reservations cancelled. That's at least two empty seats Mister Currie, et al. :twocents:Stop. I don't want a trigger happy guy. I want a AD who is calculated, deliberate, and who makes the right decision when it really is the right time.
This season is likely done for. No matter what we do, we may not even make a bowl. We may finish the worst in history. I don't know. But apparently, the environment within the coaches isn't even good enough to name an interim.
You're ridiculous if you're talking about Currie just because he hasn't pulled the trigger as soon as you'd like him to. Give the man a chance to do the right thing, and honestly, it may not even happen until after the season is over. Just breathe. It's already bad. If it gets worse, it just means you're definitely going to get the outcome you and everyone else is clamoring for. But at least give Currie a chance to play it his way.
Because if all of this pans out and he does end up hiring a winner, you're going to feel really dumb.
