Time to replace John Currie

Id much rather him take the time and get this right than to screw it up and sit us back further. I want Butch gone yesterday but I'm struggling to see how it will be any better with him gone. Our o-line is terrible. Wide receivers are not getting separation and look lost. Defensive looks ok early and fades late because of having to be on the field so much. Like I said I want him gone too, but I'm not sure it gets better if he goes. Now or later. I guess you help recruiting by getting rid of him now and getting another coach in to start to build relationships. Also this is the first major hire. He has never hired a football coach before, so let's let's make sure we get it right and not just get it right now.

Agreed with one deviation.

The trouble could be hiring the right coach this early. Hopefully that coach is coaching a team still in a conference championship race.

There is a possibility that it could be worse if an interim replaces Butch. I'm not against it but there isn't a guarantee that the team will start playing better. We are 7 games into the season with no time to start learning a different offensive scheme or adding new plays. I also don't buy in that Butch has lost the locker room. I've not seen any sign of that on the field. The guys play hard.
Recruiting will take care of itself later and no decision of when to act should be based on saving the recruiting class. Saban wasn't hired at Bama until January I believe. That worked out just fine.

There is no guarantees in life and even if we wait till the end of season there will be no guarantee that it will work out for the best. At this point i am willing to take a chance to improve things .

How was hiring Davenport a head scratcher?

She reminds me of Edith Bunker.
She may be an awesome university head for all I know.
I just haven’t been encouraged or inspired when I’ve heard her speak publicly.
Perhaps she is goofy in public but is otherwise great. Idk.

I know that both Davenport and Currie tried way too hard in that press conference that introduced Currie.

I and nobody else on the outside looking in has any beat on how good of a Chancellor she is/will be. Nobody really knows how good of an AD Currie is/will be either. In his time at K-State, which was considerable (8 years) he didn't really have to make a large number of hire/fire decisions as far as coaches. Bill Snyder was entrenched again as football coach. The most notable thing that happened as far as his staff was that he and Frank Martin butted heads, which eventually led to Martin leaving. The guy who he hired to replace him (Bruce Weber) has been OK (not as successful as Martin was), and we all know what Martin was able to do last year at South Carolina, a school with virtually no basketball tradition. That whole thing wasn't a good look for Currie.

When was the last time a chancellor INSPIRED you? And how boring was your life at the time?

100% agree. A useless AD. We're probably now officially the laughing stock of college football.

Most of the laughs seems to come from the actions of the fans. Sure, Butch's quotable moments and now Gaulden's fingers have given them fuel to the fire, but players and coaches come and go. The mob mentality of the fan base is the bread and butter of Tennessee jokes.

Brady Hoke is a former HC that won 11 games at Michigan. We have Bob Shoop and Gillespie. Like you said the season is over. So you mean to tell me neither of those guys have the ability to step in and be an interim? If thats truly the case, then we need a complete coaching overhaul from top to bottom.

That IMO is why he hasn't been fired. Say you can CBJ and let Hoke takeover. He wins out. Then we may be stuck with Brady Hoke getting the gig fullltime. Gross!

The offense hasn't scored a touchdown in a month. It wouldn't be any worse if we literally put a monkey with a dart board out there to call plays.

Really ?
You think ending 5 years of garbage is being trigger happy??!

The first 3.5 years were good. CBJ has the Vols out of the dump and headed in the right direction. While the last 1.5 years have been bad, it is a gross exaggeration to say it's been a miserable 5 years.

Poor fulmer !! One bad year and to the curb .

One bad year and to the curb? Were you paying attention the prior years?

This clown is given 5 years to embarrass UT and still we let if continue .
That comment deserves no response.

[/B]Screw the administration . Pathetic .
Grow a pair Currie

What's your solution?

I'm thinking for him to leave us hanging like this he must have something up his sleeve.

soon.......? maybe

It could also be that he's letting the fanbase melt down to the point that we would be willing to accept even this guy.

No, OP. You just don't understand. The UT athletic department does this for a living and they are experts at their jobs. The past decade has proven it. So go play with your Legos or Barbie dolls instead of criticizing experts with a proven track record. They've known what has been going on behind the scenes for the past decade. Not you.

Lol..legos and Barbie dolls? If you are going to try and offend someone at least put some effort into it. I take this about as seriously as Bama took our offense.

Shoop would work for me as interim and likely retain most of recruiting class. Could RG call the plays? Not sure about that. Reason for saying that is because I'd want Scott gone with Butch.

Good grief, people. You're getting what you want.

I almost wish Currie would give Butch a 10 year extension with a massive raise and a $3 billion buyout clause, just to watch all your knucklehead craniums explode.

That and the newly adopted "early signing period" really throws rocks into the gears. Anyone should be able to comprehend all the variances involved in making a major change. It really chaps my azz but some things favor CBJ in this situation. I'm for a public demonstration on campus. I'M adamant that the damage is already done and Jones HAS TO GO. Another bowl game and ending up 7-6 while we beat teams we've always beaten anyway isn't gonna impress a true,orange-blooded, Vol on any day.
