Those plays always happen in a game even with the top tier teams. Look at their stud Rb stats and team total rushing yards/attempts. Not an alarming performance last night like some of you are indicating.I’m not sure we win 2/3 of those games. Our tackling on defense was bad. We had multiple times we hit them behind the line of scrimmage and they managed to turn it into a 3-5 yard gain.
Dude your nuts if you think this team isn’t explosive, just because it didn’t happen tonight and we took what they gave us. But by all means keep talking bad about us and make yourself look clueless as the season moves on! GBO!!!!

Where did we rank in 3rd down conversions last year? We will be just as good and likely better this year.
I’ll answer for you. We ranked 9th out of 130 teams.
I don't think you can extrapolate much of anything about the Pitt and Florida games from this performance.
It's a first game tune up, and we put up 59 points and held them scoreless for half the game. We didn't struggle in any major aspect of the game other than third down defence, and coverage in the secondary, which were both a problem last season as well.
It did not take several years for Bama. They won twelve games Saban’s second year and won the NC his third year.A year or two passing wont magically put us on the level of Alabama. Finishing in the top 5 in recruiting several consecutive years with a few number one classes sprinkled in will put us on that level. As that is actually what put Alabama on that level....
Similar thoughts here. I came away feeling like the team was very similar to last year. The RBs looked better but OL still meh, DL still meh, and DB not great. We should win some games though. Could’ve won 9-10 easy last yearOverall report:
I believe the offense held their own and did a great job. As long as you have hooker leading this offense, I'm not concerned with that unit. Scale 1-10, I would give the offense an 8.
Defensive was kind of embarrassing tonight. If Ball state actually had a good QB and a decent head coach, this game would have been closer. Like years past, Tennessee continues to struggle Defending outside slants as well stopping third down convertions. That Defensive line tonight, very piss poor. Defensively, this side of the ball gets a 3. 0 sacks and Paddock had all day to throw, we were very fortunate that he was an inexperienced QB
Tennessee has a good team but not a great team. When you see Georgia or Alabama play against cupcakes, you can see the sheer talent emerge from multiple players, in Tennessee's case, I haven't seen that in a UT player besides Hooker.
Tennessee will compete against most of the SEC this season, still a year or two away from getting on Alabama's level
Go Vols! Beat Pitt!
Some of you folks must be miserable to be around. I hope for perfect execution and overpowering the opponent every play, but I also realize that's unreasonable expectations. For game 1, it was pretty darn good. When you're up by 38 at halftime the intensity is naturally going to decline. Maybe it's just BVS taking over. Are you trying to say Tennessee is on the same level as Georgia?
Horrible analogy

Well you don’t have no choice but to wait and see it. They moved the ball well, the underneath stuff was there. We almost had 600 yards of offense sure they could have put all their offense on display tonight but there was no reason to force things when other things were there for the taking. To complain about the offense you seen last night is downright silly. We scored on 6 out of first 7 possessions. Oh but I know we didn’t throw a 70 yard bomb last night so we looked terrible. Okay whatever. GBO!Did I say they are not explosive in general or they were not explosive in this game?
Those are two different things. I hope we will be more explosive for the rest of the season than last night, and imagine we will be. But I’ll have to see it.
I think and hope this was just part of the chess match… don’t show Pitt anything serious on both sides we still won by 50 I do want to see us play much tighter vs Pitt… I think our run defense will be continue to be stout I like our size and depth in the interior… Thomas Terry garland Eason and Simmons is a really good rotation… 9 6 and 30 will get home much more when teams actually throw anything pass 5 yards im not worried about the pass rush… I feel confident in the culture built that we will continue to improve throughout the season. They could have been a lot better against the pass.
For whatever reason, Banks had the CB's 10 yds off. Any time UT blitzed or got push, their QB just hit a 5 yd slant, out, or slant. I think they had some automatics too. UT would have 10 yd cushions. BSU would cut the DL and hit those little 5 yd passes.
If Banks doesn't get more aggressive and start knocking receivers off their routes and timing... you can blame the DL all you like but the failure is scheme.
One thing I question with this team is it's physicality. Not sure about their "toughness".Overall report:

We definitely dont play a physical brand of football. Im interested to know if thats a scheme thing or a personnel thing. We really dont have the roster to line up and run it right at teams or line up playing press man on defense. Im curious to see what our defense looks like when the roster is upgraded. One thing I question with this team is it's physicality. Not sure about their "toughness".
How can we drop 8 if we're rushing 4 or 5? Your math ain't mathing.Y’all do realize we dropped 8 most of the game, and they stacked the O-Line with additional TE’s to keep us from sacking, right? Then they threw quick-outs all game.
In order to get sacks, we would either need to corner or safety blitz, or someone on defense would literally have to knock over an O-lineman to get to the QB.
The lack of sacks is not a concern at this point.
Lol, what did you watch bro..... trouble running on BS ? Stats, TD's and any other stat you wanna throw out disagrees with everything you said. This game was exactly what it was supposed to be. They BS didnt score until the 3rd qtr on mostly a cleared bench and getting a few guys in the back end more work. This was the gameplan, simple easy and basic. Did you expect to see exotic pressures and schemes ? 500 yards of offense, 3/4 turnovers by the defense. Yards are given in today's college football. This team had no chance from the start of the game and we played like it.It looked bad to me. The passing game looked stiff and predictable. The running game was almost obsolete. I mean, Tennessee had trouble running on Ball State. The front got almost no pressure on the quarterback most of the night. There were a few times they got some pressure, but most of the night, the quarterback could have stood back there and eaten a sandwich. Some people have mentioned that Tennessee didn't struggle in the game at all. I mean, no kidding. It was Ball State. A decent High School team could have beaten them, so that is nothing to brag about. All in all, unless Tennessee improves a lot, they aren't beating Pitt. And I expect them to lose several SEC games.
My perspective is that we look like a finesse "west coast" type of team vs a tough, physical SEC program. Always different paths to an end. Just wonder how we will respond when some team smacks us in the mouth. We definitely dont play a physical brand of football. Im interested to know if thats a scheme thing or a personnel thing.
