The Weightlifters Thread

I never took that into consideration. So many people would get up from their bench, walk around while looking in the mirror, then do another set. I couldn't even get to the area that has kettlebells because of the sheer amount of people looking into the mirrors. No gym should have mirrors. Also, I do chest like once a month... I could care less what I bench. My goal is to get lean and have powerful, quick legs. I need to master front squats next, I think.

I can't do without mirrors. I've got to be vigilant about watching my form. I should probably prioritize my chest more. My back was my biggest weak point, but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Also, it's considered by most to be totally d-bag, but Arnold was convinced of the effectiveness of flexing between sets. You are stimulating the muscle for growth, and when you flex he says you are telling the muscle how you want it to grow. Not enough people flex in front of the mirror, IMO. If more people did it, I'd feel comfortable doing it. As is, I try to flex incognito.

That doesn't change the fact that it's annoying to have no idea what benches are still being used, and which have weights left on them by previous user.

Really? Sounds interesting, but I want to see some science.

My back and shoulders got a good pump today. I never thought about everyone doing chest on mondays. The only reason I do chest on Monday is so my tris can get 3 full days rest before I do arms on thursdays. I guess I could flip them, but I'd rather not.

Doesn't matter, though, as my gym isn't very crowded over lunch. Though it is considerably more crowded overall on Monday for some reason. I did have to wait a minute to get on incline bench yesterday.

More people on Mondays because people have been lazy all weekend, decide they need to get back to the gym, then some don't even make it back in the rest of the week. That's how my PT buddy explained it to me, which is why Mondays are usually his rest day and busiest day as a trainer.

Monday is my off day, never workout that day. That is when all the idiots hit the gym for their one day a week chest training. At least that's how it is at my gym. They usually just stand around talking.

30 second to 1 minute of rest between sets for me, depending on what I do. If it's heavy, maybe a little more than that.

Yea the heavier I go the longer I rest. Sometimes up to 3-4 minutes. When you get into repping heavy weight you need to recover a little.

It's HIT, by the way, unless there is an "I" I'm not accounting for. HIT is best, IMO, but I like to change things up.

High Intensity Interval Training? Or are you thinking of something else?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. HIT is High Intensity Training. I guess they're the same, one is just in reference to cardio, the other weight lifting.

If I'm doing a major lift like bench, squat, etc I'm not focused on burning fat I'm working on strength & building a particular muscle group. If I'm lifting heavy 30 seconds rest isn't near enough between sets. I may pick it up on the supplemental stuff.

I was always under the impression that it was hiit whether it was sprints calisthenics lifting or whatever

Yes, usually 1-3 minutes. People at my gym talk the whole time, they are not in there to lift. It is just to socialize.

Agreed that is irritating

Also 3 minutes is too long, you'll cool off too much. 90 ticks at most is ideal but youre okay up to two minutes.

We do both. With a group of 4 rotating we usually get 2-3 minutes between sets adjusting weights & such. Sometimes an extra minute or so on really heavy weight.
