The Weightlifters Thread

Once when I was 17 or 18, I had a killer leg workout at the health club then ran 2 miles in 12ish minutes. Was walking downstairs to leave and tumbled about 8 steps from the bottom in front of the whole lobby. That was embarrassing.

I got pretzled* on a leg press machine when my knee buckled. It was very painful, and embarrassing. Couldn't work legs or lower back for over a month.

*maybe "smashed up like an accordion" is a better description.

I saw a guy on the leg press machine at the ymca once get crumpled by the leg press. This was about 3 years ago. He had it close to loaded full of plates. He got a couple reps and then his quad tore. I still remember him screaming. It was sickening to say the least. The three guys he was lifting with got the machine up and locked back in place. Ambulance was called and he laid in the floor until they could get a stretcher to come and get him. Gruesome and scary moment. Had to have the quad reattached and the scar is at least 10 inches long and nasty. That's about the time when I stopped going so heavy...

Well, I can't top that. Mine was mostly embarrassing cause I only had like 8 total plates. I was on like my 12th rep and I got careless not focusing.

IMO leg press gives guys who are scared to squat an ego boost. You have to load it down with too much weight to get much out of it.

I leg press because it's easier on my it bands and knees. Still do squats once a month or so though, but with 275x10.

New discussion. Favorite/least favorite exercise? Why? Not for each bodypart, overall.

Favorite - Deadlift. Even though I don't do it as often as I once did, I still believe there is no better test of overall strength. Plus practically the entire body is involved.

Least Favorite - Pushups. Always hated them. I don't feel them anywhere except in my triceps. Probably because I have long arms. My trainer gf is always on me to do more of them and incorporate them into my training routines. Reluctantly I do them, but I don't like them.

I need suggestions on some supplements. I am trying to lose weight and start working out again. In high school I was 6'4'' 280 playing football. Now I am up to 320. Plan on taking Opti-Men and ON-Whey. Just trying to figure out a good pre or post workout supplement. And does fish oil really work??

Favorite - cable flies

Least - any ab work. Boring, little results and look like a chick.

Whey is good for working out, repairing muscle, but not really for losing weight. Casein is better for that, I've read goat milk protein is the best, I've never really tried it.

For a preworkout, don't just get 1, try 3 and alternate them. NEVER BUY A GNC BRANDED PRODUCT! Jack3d, Code Red, NO explosion by VPX, AlphaFury by Bioquest are some good ones. Others out there have shown good results as well.

Fish oil is ok, krill oil is far better.

Fish oil is a dietary supplement pretty much for the heart. It's does nothing major in producing muscle. It also helps with joint pain & said to help prevent cancer.

Fish oil is something that is generally good for your health. cc is correct; it has little in the way of benefits in the realm of body building. All the same though, should be a staple in everybody's vitamin cabinet.
