The Weightlifters Thread

Bump.

I'm really liking HIT. 3 weeks into it and I feel bigger. Haven't done any measurements, yet. I thought I would suffer in terms of detail, but I don't feel like that's the case. Probably do measurements after this week.

One interesting thing is that in softball when I stopped over-training I hit 4 HR's in 4 games (and 2 were tape measure shots). In the early part of the season (about 14 games) I hit only like 6 HR's (1 tape measure).

This might be a dumb question, but do you have to be sore after a workout to get gains?

No. You will at first but it will go away as your muscles get used to it. Not to say you won't ever get sore after that but not being sore after you workout don't mean you're not making gains.

No, but if you go a while without ever getting sore, you should probably change things up in your routine to shock the muscles.

I don't remember who it was that recommended the GreenMag, but I appreciate it.

I been trying it out and it has worked very well for me.

Of course it is my first time using any type of creatine so it might not be the actual GreenMag brand, but that my body is getting creatine from a supplement for the first time.

Either way good look on that.

I'll be having to do my 225 lb. bench reps max in a little over a month now.

Do any of y'all know any kind of bench regiment I can get on that would improve my reps of 225 on the bench?

I tried to looks something up, but I really couldn't find much. I know apparently it is done to judge the "stamina" of your muscle or at least that's what I read. But regardless I'm trying to improve on last year so if any of y'all have heard of any kind of training regiment for that I would greatly appreciate giving me the heads up. TIA.

Try doing max reps with a little bit heavier weight. Try using bands & doing high reps.

Just start lifting 225lbs... Even if you can only do three reps, you'll get used to it and do more before long.

I lifted it 21x last year at the beginning of pre-season camp. I want to do more this year obviously, but I just don't see me getting many more. I've about reached my max plateau it seems with my body size.

I just didn't know if there was some sort of specific workout or routine that people do if they are needing to get ready for something like that. I was trying to see what type of routine the college football players who were getting ready to perform at the NFL Combine did because I know they rep 225 at the combine. I didn't find anything though.

I've just been doing flat bench once a week every Monday. I didn't know if I should try to bench press more (like 2x a week), or go heavier weight-smaller reps, or lighter weight-more reps, or what.

21x 225 lbs? There's a point where you just can't do much more, and that's already well beyond the limits of most people.

High reps...I can do that. Thanks for the advice.

Bands....I don't know. Seems pretty cool, but I'm not sure if the gym (The Rush) I go to has them. I've never seen them anywhere. I've seen chains..Would they work?

The only time I've ever seen chains used is when people run out of space on the bar (yes I've seen somebody bench that much. insane.)

Bands are for progressive resistance. SPRI makes good ones, you can get them at any sporting goods store.

Chains would work in a similar fashion. Working out more isn't the answer. Try different things likd incline, close grip, weighted dips, etc.

That too. I vary the hell out my workouts... Chest could include incline, decline or flat bench, dips, cable press, dumbbells which allow for all sorts of movements, flys, etc.

WS4SB, the workout I posted earlier, would have been perfect for you.

What is your teams off season training like?

What is your teams off season training like?

Lift 4x a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and Run 3x a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Pretty basic. We are all responsible to do the workouts over the summer on our own. Most of our players our out of state from FL and GA so they go home for the summer. There aren't any "team workouts" over the summer. Everybody is on their own.

We are just DIII so that's what we do. I'm pretty sure UT along with most DI schools have team workouts throughout the summer. I wish we did. I assume working out, running, and practicing as a team will help teams play together once it is time for the season.

We just show up after being out for 3 months and have 3-4 weeks to get everything ready for the 1st game.

Oh well..done with my rant on that. It is what it is. But anyway that's our workout plan they give us. Nothing to fancy or exciting.

First leg workout in forever yesterday. Was still able to deadlift 315x4 on my last set despite not having done them in months. Not too shabby.

I thought I was gonna screw up my form, but my back feels fine today. Touched the ground an ayythang.

And stop skipping on leg workouts! (pot calling the kettle black, I know)
