The Weightlifters Thread

Got some Muscle Milk Light protein bars that expired in March. Vanilla Toffee Crunch... would you eat them? nearly 4 months out of date...

Only if you're okay with spending an entire day or two with the toilet, or in your case what ever you use as a feces receptacle.

How does someone go about working out their neck? I am pretty sure there isn't any type of machine at The Rush that works out/strengthens the neck. I know the neck gets worked out during many different exercises, but I was wondering if there were any specific exercises for it.

I'm trying to do my best Austin Johnson impersonation

There are machines designed specifically for the neck but if you don't have 1 there's other things you can do. You can buy a harness that has chains attached to it so you can attach weights & work the neck that way. You can take a small dumbbell or weight & lay on a bench with your head off the edge. It's best to use a small towel folded up as a pad. Keep your hands on the weight for support & place the weight on your forehead. You can figure the rest out.

They make cable strap type accessories for it, I've seen them at the sporting goods store. You'll look totally ridiculous but hey, different strokes.

Ok, want to get down to about 190-195 again. I'm at 222 right now.

A pyramid routine with about 30 mins of treadmill a day would work for that, right?

If you're willing to do that work, forget the numbers and deal with body fat %.

I usually just focus on BF%...I am at about 15% right now. My knees and joints just can't handle running/jumping as well at this weight so I want to get down to what I weighed a few years ago.

^^^. Weight is fairly meaningless. Body composition is what most people are concerned about. I'm 5'11", once weighed 225 and was a fatty. I now weigh 220 but with a significantly lower body fat %.

For anybody who is working out for looks, weight, BMI, etc. are all meaningless.

Makes sense. Then it's about caloric intake and burn.

Yeah, back when I was playing basketball in high school I was running a lot and lifting weights. Was at about 180 and I was still overweight according to the BMI scale. I stopped caring about BMI after that. I just want to cut weight to make it easier on my joints...got a half marathon coming up I need to lighten up for.

I figure I have to take in somewhere around the 2500-2700 calorie range and cut out a lot of carbs. That's probably a -500 deficit for me.

FitDay.com provides a pretty good free calorie tracker. Commit to using it at least 2-3 times a day, be strict as possible, get into a maintenance routine with cardio as you said and the weight should drop.

Throw in some HIIT cardio. Personally, I think full body is the way to go JMO IMO tho.

Your target range of 2500-2700 should get it done.

My bad. Will be jacked in a couple weeks. Shake Weight will dramatically speed the process. It's all about number of muscle contractions per second per second (mc/s/s).

Only been 9 days and already getting accused of juicin'. Is there any secrets to keep these creatine supps from making my face chubby and my eyes puffy? All this water weight is starting to kick in, I guess.

Your face and eyes are puffy? Never heard that one from creatine. I've taken some brands of creatine that made me feel bloated but never in the face. LOL. Also never heard of anyone being accused of taking steroids while using it, JMO, IMO, TIFWIW.

Creatine makes you retain water but it's in your muscles not just water storing in your body anywhere. Lol at being asked if you were juicing from taking creatine, it's not that good.

You guys assume Billy was accused of juicing because of his muscles, when in reality he was probably just cruising around the locker room naked and they drew that conclusion from the size of his berries.
