The Weightlifters Thread

What would you recommend? All I am taking now post-workout is some protein. What else should I add to that?

And also I am thinking of going with Green Magnitude for my creatine. Can I take Green Mag and JACK3D pre-workout and then protein and whatever else after? I don't know if there would be any need for both the creatine and the JACK3D pre-workout.

Depends on how much $$$ you got. Doesn't hurt, you'll just have high dollar piss.

Lots of good stuff out there (as long as its not a GNC product). Myozene is the best I've found but it doesn't taste very good. SizeOn is popular but I'm not a fan.

Isn't that by Gaspari? I haven't been impressed with anything they put out, especially superdump250

Jack3d has creatine but its not nearly enough to be beneficial. Get some plain creatine monohydrate & mix a teaspoon with the jack3d before you workout & do another teaspoon after.

Alright....here's my weekly routine.....what say you? Tuesday: Push muscle circuit: flat bench/overhead press/tricept extensions of some sort/ lower abs.....sets of 8-10 with no break in between....4 circuits...then incline/arnold press/different tricept extension/situps....same amt and 4 circuits...... 15 minutes on cardio bike with heart rate @ 115.......Thursday: bicepts/back/traps/obliques...same thing...2 different circuits (so 6 different lifts/ 2 different ab workouts) 4 X each...15 min on bike with HRate @ 115.....Saturday: Squats/straight legged deads/calf raises 8 repsX 4 circuits...then straight bar lunges/ leg curls/ calf raises 8 reps X 4.....bike for 15 min hrate @ 115.... Whey protein...3 shakes a day....and overall (food included) I aim for 25g of protein every 3 hrs......no creatine...although I've heard good things about crealkyline??......I'm up to 163 from 145 since mid march.... Thoughts???? Ideas?

That's it. I don't like it either but it still gets great reviews.

MHP is also one of the best supp makers as well.

You can take it prior and after. I would advise before so you can take advantage of its benefits during your workout.
After is fine, but...

If Jack3d has creatine, and you're already eating a ton of meat, I wouldn't see why you would need any more. JMO

This. Practically all pre-workout supps have some sort of creatine blend in them, if you're eating that and a meat-rich diet, that should be enough.

One thing guys in the body building crowd are constantly guilty of is over-supplementing.

As for Jack3d, I've started doing some research on the stuff... Made the decision to cut off of it forever, methylhexanamine has been linked to some serious issues. It's also on the world anti-doping agency banned list.

Besides that, considering it takes three scoops to get anything out of it, and you're out after 15 days, but by the end of then, it's worn out and you need to cycle off.

I used to think highly of Jack3d and other USPlabs stuff, but after putting the pieces together, I get the understanding that it's over-marketed, over priced poorly performing junk.

1 scoop of jack3d is plenty but it does lose it's potency after a couple weeks. It don't have nearly enough creatine in it to be beneficial so another creatine supplement is needed. I prefer plain creatine mono. I like jack3d over other NO products because it isn't mostly fillers.

That "mostly fillers" line is pure marketing BS.

And I still stacked it with about four different kinds of creatine at various points -- still sucked after about a week and a half, I was having to take over three (sometimes four) scoops to get the same effect, and it was making me a little nutty.

Stuff's no good.

Sounds like you've fallen for some propoganda. USP Labs is solid. Jack3d is solid. Because its taken a large market share with a smaller marketing budget than BSN, Muscletech, Gaspari, etc., competitors are flooding the market with "danger" and "warning" nonsense, yet at the same time are churning out copycat concentrated products. As far as the banned list, who cares. There are all kinds of stupid things on the banned list. Unless you're an Olympic athlete its not at all a big deal. Actually it means it works pretty well.

Actually, there is not really a lot of garbage products out there anymore. The only thing close is GNC brand products, but that's because of the 500% mark up, they're still not that bad.

Look at all the maltodextrin & crap in noxplode & other preworkout supps. No fillers might be a marketing tool but it's no gimmick. Unless you're an Olympic or professional athlete what does it matter if it's on the international banned list. It just means it's a performance enhancer & that's it's job.

If you are progressing and pleased with the results, then it's working. I would cycle your reps. Shoot for one gram of protein per pound of target bodyweight. You should try adding creatine and drink a lot of water. You're up 18 lbs, is it muscle? Do the mirror test... LOL.

What do you mean when you say circuits? Do you mean sets? Do you do the same weight every set? 15 minutes on a bike with a heart rate @ 115 isn't much cardio. Rest between sets isn't a bad thing either. What do you do for shoulders?

If nothing else, I do know for a fact that Jack3d works great for about a week and a half then I get nothing out of it.

It was cheap and worked okay in a pinch when I was way broke, and it could be just me, but I've had better results from literally every pre workout supp I've ever tried. And my account is far from the only I've read or personally know of guys admitting that their state of mind is off kilter after cycling Jack3d for a few days... Something ain't right about the stuff.

I'd say most of it is muscle, as I've got a chest for the 1st time in my life...haha. I can definately see a difference. I also switched to a "mostly" organic diet around the same time I began lifting. I drink mainly milk, natural juices, and natural spring water. I eat lots of fruit and raw veggies. (All organic)

I'm a novice, so my lingo may be off, but when I say circuits, I mean that I go from the flat bench straight to the overhead press straight to the tri extension straight to the mat for abs... So 8-10 chest reps, 8-10 shoulder reps, 8-10 tri reps, 8-10 ab reps without a break. (Just the time it takes to walk to the other area) That is what I'm calling 1 circuit. I rest maybe 1-1.5 minutes before starting my 2nd cycle of circuit 1. (I cycle through that 4X) then 4 different lifts/exorcises(circuit2) that work the same muscle group. I do circuit 2 4X as well. The idea is that I'm getting cardio throughout the whole workout, and I'm doing 240-300 reps in 40 minutes..... I increase weights on the last two runs of each circuit....and for shoulders I'm doing overhead press (free-weight machine, and or dumbells) then arnold press....some days latteral raises.....

Most people refer to what you call circuits as " super sets " just to let you know.

Jack3d doesn't contain as much caffeine as other PWO so a lot of times it loses its effect when caffeine tolerance is high. It does contain the most potent form of 1,3 dimeth on the market, and even though they don't report the amount that they include, its widely accepted that its less than others, and its just in a purer form. 1,3 dimeth works great for a lot of people, but since body chemistry varies, so do the results. It's what gives "focus" or "euphoria" to some. My experience with 1,3 dimeth is it causes me to really crash and burn after a workout unless I have a quality post workout supplement and few report that about it.

It's great advice to cycle off though. Not because its unhealthy, but any PWO will lose its effectiveness with constant use. I alternate between 4 PWO and my gym schedule is Tues, Thurs, Sun, and I don't take any PWO on Sundays.

Goin to the chiropractor today, after people started talking about being out of alignment I realize that may be my problem. If not, I get my back popped anyways.
