The Weightlifters Thread

I also say nay. There are hardly any times in the gym when I get bad enough blisters to even consider them.

What is everybody's opinions on gloves? I say nay.

I use to wear gloves a long time ago but the past few years I go bare handed. I keep calluses at the base of my last 3 fingers on each hand. I do use straps for shrugs & a belt sometimes. I don't use a pad when I squat either or that funky device you stick on the bar they have now.

I'm developing small calluses on the middle of my hands.

You're thinking of the manta ray. Dumb.

Yeah, gloves are for weirdos, IMO. The guy that wears the dew rag wears the gloves.

I feel like they hinder my grip especially on bench press. Depending on the gloves I don't like my hands turning black either. With shrugs the glove/strap combo don't work for me. Sometimes the bar creeps down in my fingers & gloves hinder my grip. The only real benefit from gloves IMO is to keep from getting calluses.

I don't use gloves. Just about any lifting straps are sufficient and do enough to get the job done. My girlfriend bought me a pair of versa gripps for my birthday and I really like them. They are easy to use for push or pull exercises. Only problem is they are a little more expensive than the standard straps.

My buddy has some Harbinger straps with rubber on one side that are f'n money. I shrugged 495 on barbell x6 and never even came close to losing grip.

And FWIW when I don't use gloves and my hands do callous or blister, my girlfriend gives me crap for it. So there's always that to consider.

Should have thrown a 2.5 on each side. Lol. I think a few of us have those straps.

lol I actually did that the first time just to make it an even 500. I ended up not making it because I started giggling.

Talked to a local gym manager here, and she said that ACE and ACSM are best - To those who were talking about it earlier.

A guy asked me for a spot yesterday. When I agreed I had no idea he was going to loudly start talking about all the "queers" and "homos" that monopolize the various stations at the the gym. I was so embarrassed. I was like, "I don't know this guy."
