Jeez, yes we all get it, there are differences from 30 years ago and regional differences from the Middle East.

The fact still remains, it’s been 80 years since we successfully executed any kind of nation rebuilding endeavors and this is not Germany or Japan.

Maybe it works out this time, I genuinely and really hope it does, but you are kidding yourself by discounting the last 30 years of blood and treasure spent on this type of policy for it to not work out.
I was very let down when, before invading the Middle East, George Bush said "we won't leave our people there for decades" because that's the only way that seems to work. Unfortunately.

Events subsequent to the war have been been very good for Germany and Japan. I'm happy for them. Germany is so wealthy they were able to re-incorporate East Germany. So people in forums can blubber negativity all they want, but some things really do turn out well.

I don't think it's all that tough nation building in Venezuela. I find it remarkable, in fact, that Chavez and then Maduro would have been able to make the Venezuelan people poor. It's shocking that any government, no matter how stupid, could do that.

You gotta wonder why it took so long for a superpower to do this.

Venezuela holds over a fifth of the world's oil.
Well, a lot of things might be happening because a superpower is interested in taking a hand. As China says "let us be your buddy" in the western hemisphere then things happen as a result of that.

You might be surprised. In living memory, Venezuela was a prosperous country. I admit, though, that nobody wants to see a big marxist purge, right? And once you have that cancer, I don't know how you remove it.

What does that have to do with anything? People believe that for this country. That country is going to be poor going forward as well. You are not concerned as to anyone's well being there.

That’s the confusing part to white liberals.

If China bombed Washington DC, a good part of the population here would be celebrating. That doesn't mean its something I would want to be involved in. This is bush league stuff that I thought Americans were tired of.

Here is current U.S. foreign policy...

I'm lost. I don't know what "that" means. Honestly I guess I doin't know what "anything" means either.

In fact, I think you would be better served to just say:

I believe that [something] is not related to [something] and then say why. Of course, these threads would be shorter.

Clinton had the good fortune of the .Com internet boom. A chimpanzee could have balanced the budget when billions and billions of dollars and taxes were made out of thin air. That was a once in 100 years maybe event...like the Industrial Revolution. He wasn't a financial wizard. Damn sure wasn't a small government guy either. He was the best Democrat president in my 48 years of life though. By a mile.

Clinton would be a Republican in 2025. Right next to Trump on the political spectrum.
No, he wouldn't. That's stupid.

Trump is accused going into a sovereign country to catch a criminal, Obama went into a sovereign country to catch a criminal
That is a gross over-simplification.

The "capture" of Maduro obviously involves a governmental regime change, and will require a commitment of considerable American resources (including time and multiple American administrations) to achieve stability.

The capture of Osama bin Laden did nothing more than hurt Pervez Musharraf's feelings for a moment but he sold some books with Simon & Schuster and got over it.

Same playbook different century.
It’s just the way it is now. There really isn’t a private sector anymore. Large corporations work hand in hand with the government. The corporations bribe the politicians who in turn grant largesse from the treasury and protect them from competition. The companies then act as a proxy on behalf of government to squash the mythical “constitutional” rights of citizens who might have unapproved opinions. Covid made this obvious to anyone with a room temperature IQ. We have far too few corporate bankruptcies in this country.

How does the 'legitimacy' of their government matter? It is a sovereign country.
Venezuelans could have taken up arms and fixed their country.

Instead they largely ran away. Unfortunately they've been *****ing up a lot of the rest of South America in the process. Last year in Lima they were out protesting that the Peruvian government wasn't giving them benefits like they had at home.

It is not my job as an American to pay for this stuff. Everyone knows I'm tired of it for Israel, Palestine, etc., and I'm tired of it in our own hemisphere. Life is getting worse here in the US, it's time to turn our hand back into our own country.
