Is there any reason to get involved here? Seems like it would be a good place to employ the star trek prime directive on and let them fail and learn about economics at their own pace. All of kissingers meddling years ago seems to have resulted in some of our own immigration woes. Why repeat the mistakes of the past? There's no cold war to even vaguely justify it.

Simple. The President of Venezuela has not sufficiently kissed Trump's fat white butt. And so they must be crushed.

It seems a lot of folks aren't very smart. The drug interdiction is the excuse. Just like the stuff with the Panama Canal was to prevent China from taking it over.

Venezuela i.e. Maduro is being proped up by China along with Iran & Russia.

We don't need our enemies building up their military assets a thousand miles from the Florida coast.

Russia and china are massing military forces in Venezuela? I cant find anything to corroborate that.

Isn't drug enforcement usually done by the police? Dont the people on these boats deserve due process of law before being murdered?

Exactly, the issue isn't as much about drug trafficking as it is a warning to stop building up militarily.

Gotta give him props for the effort though.

Won't be surprised if Trump ends up taking him up on the offer after he strokes Hegseth's ego by letting him play 'G.I Joe' with real military assets for a few weeks.

Not a fan of military actions. Would prefer this mainly be handled through economic sanctions against Venezuela and any of their large trading partners.

100%. It's about keeping China out of our backyard. Old Monroe Doctrine policies.

What are we going to sanction that will have any impact? The export of their prison population?

I'm but either but there's more to this story than we are being told and I'm convinced it's something to do with Chinese or Russian military tech.

Are they still threatening Guyana? I can agree with warning them off that. Otherwise I don't see a good reason to play empire builder there.
Putin basically told Trump if you give Tomahawks to Ukraine we'll give the equivalent to Venezuela.

Venezuela has been cozying and entering military trade agreements with China and Russia. I think it's a little bit overkill but then again I'm not privy to intelligence. It may be a bigger issue than you or I are aware of

Or it may just be overkill, either way I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Countries are supposed to be free to make alliances as they choose though. Unless they're a threat to us or a neighbor allied with us I don't see the point of us threatening them.
