The Runner's thread

Just a little follow up. For those of you using the normal Nike + app that comes free with your iPod, etc, without GPS: it is very inaccurate with distance and time. Off by as much as 2 mins per mile. I highly recommend switching over to the GPS version that costs $1.99. It is deadly accurate in time and distance. A kill to the ego at first but I'd rather it be right

I have been slammed all week with this workshop/conference thing we hosted, bringing in high ups from all the branches of the Army our command uses and I haven't gotten to run all week. Hoping to get out later today. It's going to be bad.

Saucony Guide 4. They are last years model but I got a great deal on amazon.

I run in Saucony Cortanas and they have been outstanding. I am right on the cusp of high arches with a slight pronation, and these neutral shoes provide just the right amount of cushioning/support I need at under 11oz. Got close to 400m on first pair.

At first I looked at them and though "holy crap that's a lot for a pair of running shoes". Then I read about them and for what you get, not really. It seems to be two pairs in one. You get the lightweight responsiveness of a minimalist shoe and the support and stability of a traditional trainer.

I was thinking about picking up some Kinvaras when I had the extra money for an extra set of shoes I can switch back and forth from. But now, I may just save up and get the Cortanas for my next pair and call it a day.

I know what you mean about the cost, but to me they have been worth it and I'm now on 2nd pair. They are good for me because I am not *yet* able to run in a true minimalist shoe. I would love to try the Kinvaras at some point, though. They are quite a bit lighter than the Cortanas. If you can run in a minimalist shoe you might prefer them.

I have heard great things about the Kinvaras. I may even get a true racing flat and only use it for races and track workouts. I feel like a woman wanting so many shoes. haha

You know, I saw a woman like that on the greenway a few weeks back. She had on some of those old school gym teacher type sweat pants and the sound of them rubbing together really sounded like she was trying to start a small fire... I felt terrible for laughing (when I was far enough away not to be heard)

My favorite part about running has to be my post long run routine. I come home, drink a chocolate shake for recovery, make a liter of gatorade to drink while I stretch, and then eat a giant breakfast consisting of 5 scrambled eggs and a massive amount of pancakes. Then in the afternoon I go to the local beer market and have a pint. I love Saturdays.

I remeber the first time I ran more than 6 miles I thought I would feel like crap but I felt great. It was awesome.

It was humbling as I am running along and these pack of seasoned runners come blowing by me. Haha. Can't get frustrated since Im still a newbie

I was the same way. I just had to remember that I just wanted to finish the distance no matter how long it took me. I always tell myself that no one can take that away from me when I finish a longer distance.

Good advice. That's what I kept telling myself. I am running a half on 6/3, so I am excited as I am almost there now. How long you been running?

Ran a lot in high school for soccer and other various reason. Started back seriously running a year and half ago. 3 or 4 days a week for that time period and I have taken maybe two weeks off in that time. I really need to take off another week soon, but I am going on a cruise at the end of June and I am trying to stay in shape for that. :)
