The Runner's thread

I would describe them as "bubbles" because I can push on them and they give way, they are squishy like.. If that makes sense. Probably nothing but I'll probably go get it checked out.

mentioned earlier were rolling pins...this is the one I use

It does a good job of helping your muscles after runs.

what you could have is a muscle hernia. It just means that your leg muscles aren't able to support what you are doing and need to get stronger, but you don't need to run while they are there because they will only get worse.

R-I-C-E

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

after ice you can add some heat

There are other possibilities about what it could be this is just my guess. Sorry it took me so long to get back.

Normally don't worry too much about pre-run. As a habit I drink 2-3 litres of water/day, 2 cups of coffee and 2-3 beers a week. So I stayed hydrated.

If I'm racing, then I will sip on a sports drink between breakfast & the race start. My drink of choice is cytomax.

I drink plenty of water through out the day. I was just wondering if you drank anything before your run. I have been drinking some of those gatorade primes and they seem to be working pretty well. They seem to give me some energy during my runs.

Cytomax... where can you get that stuff?? GNC or something of the like?

I occasionally get one just to the left of the middle of my left shin half way between my ankle and knee. I always have and have never experienced the pain aspect that you brought up so I have never looked into it seriously. I wil admit I have been curious to what was really going on though.

buy mine @ performance bike shop but I think I've seen it gnc. I used to use Accelerade but it was too heavy on my stomach & gatorade is too sweet for my taste. Have some friends that use Infinit to make their own & like it. I've always been to scared that I wouldn't like what I created.

I was wondering what yall did to break in a new pair of shoes? Do yall just run in them or is there something special you do? Reason I ask is I just bought a new pair and ran in them last night for the first time. (Four miles) My feet didn't reall hurt at all. Actually they felt pretty darn good. I am just afraid that on my longer runs (6 or more miles) they if they aren't broken in yet they will hurt my feet. Thanks in advance for the help

The gatorade is pretty sweet if you drink the berry flavor. The orange is not nearly as sweet so I try to stick with the orange.

I will have to look into the cytomax and try some. See if it's something I can use. Thanks for the info

Some people like to have a running shoe rotation. This serves a lot of benefits. One benefit it gives you is the ability to transition to a new pair of shoes a little easier.

Another thing I will do with a new pair is a treadmill run. If I feel it hurting my feet at all I will stop pretty quickly and change shoes and gradually work my way up in distance.

Though typically I don't have much problem with this since I run wearing a neutral shoe that is barely above a minimalist shoe

I wish I was able to have a shoe rotation, but my old shoes were beyond worn out. I think I will be ok after last nights run but I was curious if anyone had any secrets or tricks.

no problem. think the big difference from gatorade is it has less sugar and greater variety of salts and carbs plus antioxidants to help fight lactic acid buildup. supposed to deliver energy for a longer period of time & prevent soreness & fatigue. might be a placebo effect but it works for me

No problem...also try not to go more than 500 miles in your shoes. (I saw this but I am 13 miles away from crossing 1,100 in my shoes)

Also minimalist shoes are easier to trade out because there is less to them

Cytomax is good stuff. They sponsor almost all rock and roll series races and you get a bunch of free drinks from them at those races

howdy runners. I've missed you guys :)
I'm 3 weeks into crossfit and today was running day. I am happy to report that I represented us well and waxed the rest of the class. I'm also happy to report that crossfit seems to be helping me lose the last few pounds that running wouldn't. I'll probably get back in the distance running groove this summer, but for now it's nice to take a nice long break.

I sooooo want to try crossfit. Good luck to you!

6 miles last night in 44:23 with the new shoes... New shoes make my feet feel better it seems. I guess that's a sign I needed new shoes

4.2 with the pup today. Wish the mountain was at the beginning, instead of the end of my run from the house!

I wish my boxer would run with me.. I would take her all the time if she would but I have tried and she either thinks I playing with her and jumps on me or has to stop and smell something.
