That's exactly what happened, and Butch was right there asking as soon as it happened. Butch should be called timeout as soon as that kid came off the bench and was clueless.
He stopped the clock because it was a first down not because yhe player went out of bounds. He made a judgment call that the players progress was stopped in bounds. When the ball was spotted the clock started again. Correct action by the ref. Nice try though.
I counted about 20 seconds that ran off the clock that should not have on the last drive, but that's all hometown clock operation. If not for the last penalty, the 50 yard FG should have made it. It just comes down to coaching, these guys need to be prepared to line up.
I counted that much time come off from running our o up to the line without a play called or looking to the sideline for an audible.I counted about 20 seconds that ran off the clock that should not have on the last drive, but that's all hometown clock operation. It does not excuse the many bungles by our coaching staff, but on the next to last play of the game after we got a 1st down the ref signaled that the player got out of bounds.
The clock should have stopped. We subbed while the clock was running, which led to confusion and our illegal substitution.
Still, Butch should have called timeout once the clock started running and avoided the penalty.
Also, not going for the 2pt conversion is inexcusable.
