The ref screwed up

1. Wolf's (I believe) catch for a 1st down with 10 seconds to go...his knee was clearly down in bounds. Thus the clock starting on the whistle.

2. The player running in from the sideline clearly made it past the numbers on the field. That's why illegal substitution was called.

It's kind of ironic how so many on here jump on Dooley for not being able to count to 11 and that Butch would never make such a stupid mistake. Well......

If the Wolf catch was the one at about 1:15, the problem was that 9 seconds ran off of the clock before it was stopped for the first down. Then TN's left tackle moved before the snap at 0:56 which meant that there was going to be a 10 second run off unless a TO was used.

Edit: never mind, you said at 0:10.

Not to pile on, but UT got a couple gifts as well.

The catch and fumble that wasn't reviewed in the first half, not to mention refs re-spotting Medley's 2nd game winning FG attempt inside the right hash.

UT's second to last offensive possession was where this game was lost. Those play calls were Muschamp-esque.

The not going for 2 didn't seem like a big deal at the time, seeing as how our offense was so inconsistent.

The spot on the second FG attempt being an issue is one of the most comical "breaks" I've ever heard anybody try and justify.

Not that I expect football fans to get the nuances of 8th grade geometry but ..... From 55 yards, spotting the ball on the hash vs 6 feet left of the hash changes the angle of the kick a grand total of about 2 degrees.

Back to the play you mentioned the refs stood around for about 8 seconds before the blew the whistle to stop the clock. That was pathetic!

However. Once they started the clock it took over 7 seconds before the false start. Mistake by Dobbs or center.

I can't believe Butch wasn't going nuts at the clock winding for that long. That was egregious.

1. I can see either side of that one. My main issue there was trying to spike the ball there with 10 seconds left.

2. I still can't fathom a reason for him doing that. He's not around any coaches and just takes off sprinting. The only thing I can think of is if some assistant is screaming something like "Field Goal Alert" like most staffs do to prepare players who are on a particular special team to get ready, and he didn't hear the "Alert".

Call me crazy but I say take the runoff and save the timout. Heck, it took over 10 seconds off the clock for them to snap it after a first down. If they're going to try to signal plays in during the hurry up, they should spike the ball immediately anyway. Because with that little time, if you run out of downs trying to get 10 yards you aren't likely to get in field goal range anyway.
