The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

That's an adjusted efficiency rating, which is affected by the opponent's defensive efficiency rating. KenPom works the same way, with a different formula. You can click through for the metrics. The big ones that affect us are shooting efficiency (affected by accuracy and share of 3 point sitting) and rebounding (we are the top offensive rebounding team). We're not great at shooting but we're not dire like A&M was last year, and we're even better at offensive rebounds.
Thanks! I’m very surprised to see that. I guess the last 2 teams had better go to scorers, but as a team just weren’t quite as good offensively.

This year doesn’t move the needle either way on Barnes resume so far.

Those who think he is great will debate their stance and say anyone who disagrees has low bball IQ yet none of these posters are paid coaches for any college or pro team so their opinion is worth toilet paper.

Those who think Barnes is mediocre and can’t win the big one will still feel the same and their opinion is worth toilet paper too.

At the end of the day, it’s up to Danny White to decide who is right and who is wrong and make decisions that he is actually paid for.

Been on this board decades and seen dozens of posters defend coaches that ended up getting fired.

Barnes isn’t getting fired in my opinion but he is also never winning the big one. That’s my two ply opinion.

As worthless as everyone elses.

We gave CRB a lifetime contract, so he's not getting fired unless ADDW wants to douse his career and reputation in kerosine and light it on fire 😂 😂 Barnes will retire from here within a couple of years having built a foundation for sustained success for the next coach to build upon (wouldn't rule out Barnes becoming the winningest coach in the history of the men's program, either)

If you don’t use a bidet, you don’t matter in who gets hired or fired. 😆

Barnes isn't getting fired. It isn't your opinion. It's a fact
This: firing a coach after giving him a lifetime contract would be galactically stupid, and if we wanted to absolutely nuke the brand and make it untouchable for a decade or more this would be the first (mis)step that would have to be taken.

Thank goodness the fans don't run athletics programs.

Coach Barnes will never be fired by Tennessee AND ALSO coach Barnes will never win anything significant for Tennessee. no final 4s no national championship. Both are true. it is what it is.

stop being a wet blanket anytime someone says something. you're a bore. also I'm right and it will be proven out.
Maybe. The next time you have anything informed and substantive to add will be a first. It's ok that you're an entitled casual. Just expect to be called out on it from time to time.

If the program goes backwards after CRB retires, then it'll be no less than what people like Franklin deserve (ironically, he'll then be one of the ones on here crying about missing Rick)

Anyone know what Rick Barne's life expectancy is.........??????? I mean, have we done a thorough analysis on his family genealogy?????

Anxious to see if Barnes can add value tomorrow? Enough to get a win?

We know he emphasizes defense, rebounding, and playing with mental toughness and tenacity.

Can he author a good offensive game plan which generates some easy points? Can he manufacture additional points in crunch time? Can he make his team "hard to guard"?

Can his anguish from a bad defensive play be quickly soothed by a good offensive play? He seems to dwell on bad plays far more than good plays. He remembers the mistakes.

Remains to be seen. He and staff had a masterful game plan against the anointed Cinderella of the tournament. That's not unusual for him to do that. The fact his players executed the game plan perfectly is about them and not him. Hitting send on that garbage speculation reveals an already established bias against the best coach in school history. If we have open layups and out rebound them, Barnes has done his job. He can't make the shots or make the FTs or not carelessly turn it over. That is all on the players

Personally, I think we have one of the very best coaches leading us. Great talent evaluator, great in-game coach, great game plans, and seemingly great character that you would feel good about leading young men (whether or not they are professionally paid or not). I think we will miss him once he retires.

I like Coach Barnes, I got a lot of respect for him, but I question the "great talent evaluator" moniker. Our roster is woefully limited in some areas.
