The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

Don’t forget that Mears hung up his whistle when he was only 50 years old and the program was rolling. He never had a losing record in 16 years at TN. He played KY to a W/L draw. AND he had a national championship.

When Barnes eventually retires, I hope Ryan Odum is on the short list to replace him. Very, very impressed by what his (and his players') postgame revealed about how he puts a team together.
Odom is UVA through and through, so it would be almost impossible to pull him away from Charlottesville. The only guy we could hire who I think could maintain the standard that Barnes has set is, ironically, the coach of the team we play Friday night (TJ Otz)

He’s my favorite but Underwood at Illinois would be on be on my list to. His teams just seem tough and play hard watching from afar.

I sincerely hope he gives us at least one more year after this one, preferably two

I would love to see him stay long enough to break the longest tenure. He’ll break the most games coached and should break the all time wins records next year. Needs 5 more seasons to break the most seasons coached which I don’t think is doable but we’ll see.

It's so laughable how this thread stays dormant during win streaks, but after any of the few losses we have each year, the know-nothings pop in to tell us what Barnes is doing wrong. Same guys. All with low level knowledge who wouldn't have a clue how to prepare or coach a team through a game

So Bernard, are you saying you are all powerful and knowledgeable about basketball?? Hmmm????? ;-)

On a serious note, am elated that we won last night vs UVA. When our lead evaporated, again, I was thinking it was shower time for the Vols but, I believe the players took on UVA and won the game. Still on the fence about Barnes this season. We are in the BONUS now though. Need to make these next few games count.

Congrats to the Vols! I give them full credit and I never expected them to make the sweet 16.

It's the first time in a quarter of a century that Rick Barnes outplayed his seed in the tournament and only the second time in his 39 year career. A big achievement for him.

That. I find myself watching Hubbard every chance I can. Absolutely love that dudes game and somebody is getting a gem.
Hubbard has more eligibility? I thought he was done.

He really needs to latch onto a coach like CRB who can teach him how to be a complete PG if he has any aspirations in the league. Not many opportunities for a sub 6’ high volume shooting guard.

There aren’t even many opportunities for a true PG anymore. The lead scorer takes the ball down the court and plays 1 on 1 more often than they play team ball these days.

Internet says he’s a JR

Mears was force4d to retire because of medical conditions. I do believe he was the best basketball mind to ever coach at Tennessee.

Very impressed with the way this team has won so far and how they have shown up.

Zero criticism and very proud of them.

Should not have won that game and give credit to Barnes for a great game plan and the players executing it.
