The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

Time to bench Boswell and have him as 7th man. Henderson and Evans
really need to get more minutes. Gillespie absolutely needs relief
at pg. and Boswell just gives no offensive help.
I agree. Earlier in the season I thought Boswell was going to be a dog, but he won't shoot. In addition, he has a couple of dumb turnovers every game at crucial times.

Man people come after coaches so fast after a loss as if they didn’t see 20+ misses within 3 feet. What other shots do you want. Finish layups or pump and get to the ft line and it’s a W. Ky hit a couple big shots late and we didn’t. If Carey is aware and one foot to the right the kickout pass is intercepted and game close to over. None of those plays are made or not made by a 70 yr old on the sideline.
Make a damn layup.

Absolutely. You also can’t go 17 of 25 on FT’s either. Allowed way too many points in the paint for KY to shoot 50% for the game. Did a pretty good job defending the 3 allowing only 5 for 19. However we made a huge mistake leaving their one really dangerous 3 pt shooter wide open on that late 3. His defender left to help inside and shouldn’t have. In that situation, you have to deny that guy the ball.

I swear these guys need to shoot free throws until they drop.
With the disciplinarian that Barnes projects as a coach it's just mind-boggling to have players that can't hit a freaking free throw.
If JP makes those first two towards the end of the game it's probably a different outcome.
🤦

They need a sports psychologist from the portal.

I hope RB stays as long as he wants. He's earned that. We continue to have success with him.

But when he does retire, they need to go away from the RB coaching tree, and hire an offense minded coach. Imo
I'm not hoping for a Rick Barnes dismissal, but I'm pretty confident in whoever our AD replaces him with.

Hard to defend blow 2 double digit leads to the worst Kentucky team in years, blow double digit leads to Kansas on 2nd half and lose. Offense bogs down for at least a 5 minute drought in almost every loss, usually when we have a lead. Kentucky scored off their inbounds after timeouts late, we had to throw it in to our big men to avoid 5 second counts.

I don’t think I see people defending anything about the loss. When you are 3/20 at one point and most of them within 3 feet, you have to make 7 more at least and/or get to the ft line. Thats a lot of points to leave when is a scoring drought. Now if we were launching desperation and shot clock violations and not getting good shots, there’s a different debate. Near 7 footers getting the ball 3 feet from the rim is supposed to be an asset.
Simple use of the square instead of front or back rimming it probably leads to 4-5 more made, in what came down to a 1 possession game. Or break somebody’s wrist on the rim if they are going to put it there and quit trying to drop it in. Why dunk hard in warmups if you aren’t when it’s you and another player and you show them the ball instead of cranking it and making someone pay. JP goes up like Superman just holding the ball out for an easy target.

Agree to a degree, but when its easily evident the big guys cant finish, you have to go to something else. Its not just this year the scoring droughts beat us, its a running theme in most of our losses. Too much dribbling outside the 3 point line and try to get a desperation shot when shot clock gets under 10.

I mean I don’t know there a whole lot we are disagreeing on. Ament and JG have to step up if we don’t want 3 footers as that’s the only other place to go on offense. Ky focused on taking them away after getting lit up and giving our other guys open looks.
We used to complain about too many midrange. Then it was too many 3s. Now we are complaining about too many 3 footers from four 6’9-7 footers where we thought our strength would be this year. Fans need not expect to go anywhere in March if we don’t take and make shots around the rim.

You're right, im probably just more pissed cause it busted my parlay, hit 7/8!!

The long rebound off a 3 miss that led to another 3 was a killer. That’s what seemed to spark their run. UK out hustled us to too many loose balls in the second half.
