The Official Lakers Thread

Pretty sure they wanted to keep Kobe because his career wasn't ending, but revisionists gonna revision I guess.

Keep hitting that rock. Your persistence is admirable.

Shaq's career was closer to ending, but it wasn't ending. He was only 31. He and Wade were equal pieces on a title team.

Kobe was the more popular player after the feud started, and it's not even close. In 2002 Shaq got more all-star votes than Kobe. The next season is when they had a real rocky start as a team, and **** started to hit the fan. Kobe led ALL all-stars in voting in 2003 and 2004. Shaq got fewer votes than Ben Wallace. In 2005 as a member of the Miami Heat, Shaq got more votes than anybody except Yao Ming.

I think it's clear who was more popular in LA during the feud.

Ofcourse he did he was part of another fanbase.

All star votes. We've reached a new low.

I don't get it. We argue opinions based on our experiences, and if I bring up something less subjective you mock me.

Are all-star votes not a measure of popularity?

Ofcourse he did he was part of another fanbase.

Yes, a smaller market, but they appreciated him so he got a lot more votes.

I'm not talking about Kobe's first few years. I'm talking about fans largely taking Kobe's side during the feud years. Obviously you wanted both to stay, but Kobe was the favorite, and Shaq was "lazy". Anything else is revisionist history.

You're proving my point about the way Gasol and Odom are/were viewed.

Lakers fans were wanting to trade Pau and Bynum for Howard. I think that tells you something about how Lakers fans feel about their bigs. And now they complain about Howard.

Lakers fans wanted Chris Paul. I am not proving your point at all.

Odom was a fan favorite. People were mad at Kobe for a couple years after shaq left. No clue what you are talking about.

Dude I have lived in ca my whole life. Watch nearly every game and go to a couple a year. I know what's going on w real lakers fans.

Howard is disappointing because he doesn't seem to have fire. Last couple weeks he has picked it up though.

Lakers are known for their bigs anyway. You sound completely ridiculous.

When shaq left people were pissed at Kobe and buss.

Lol at this thread.

I got no prob w nhuffines but he is just wrong on his analysis.

Lakers are my fav team in any sport.

Basketball is my fourth fav sport behind golf football and baseball.

But I love the lakers and remember the shaq days fondly.

Lol at lumping Bynum w shaq and pau. People hated Bynum because he was an awful human being.

Awful human being? Did he rape Barbara Boxer or something?

I like them both. At that time I honestly liked shaq better.

Now probably Kobe as I have seen him play more.

More fans wanted to keep shaq over Kobe at that time.

Fortunately we were wrong.

How do you know that? What if you win 3 more titles if Shaq stays and you trade Kobe for something better than Odom in return?

Turns out you 2 aren't in agreement.

Anybody think we have a shot tonight?

I don't think so, but if they go into OKC and do them in their crib I will retract everything I've said about the Lakers not making the playoffs or being a threat.

I wonder if Ibaka is going to hold any grudges against Kobe after he said he "would've smacked him".

So a regular season win over a good team is enough to convince you?

The Lakers are a second round team at best.

People also forget the injuries they have dealt with. Nash, Blake, Howard and pau have all missed significant time.

If they would have been healthy all year lakers are prob 4th in west.

If you're asking me if a regular season win on the road against a top conference team in a playoff atmosphere would've convinced me that this team would've been a threat then the answer is yes. Note I never said a threat to win the golden ball on the pedestal. But a dangerous team. It is all for moot away. I stand by my intial assessment that I don't think they get in.

The Lakers problem is that they have just 4-5 quality players, and you need 7-9, especially with the injuries they've had.
